Well, after months of waiting, I finally received word that I was denied a waiver to USMA. I just wanted to come by and say thank you for all the advice I've seen on these forums over the last 18 months. I've looked at these forums at least once a day, if not twice, or thrice. Your help was invaluable to me over the last year. Three nominations including a principal I can directl attribute to the advice I heard hear.

Now, of course, I must make a new course. I have not heard from AROTC so maybe that route to officership is still open. I don't know really after that. I've so dedicated my last two years to becoming an Army Officer that I don't really have any clues as what I will do instead. However, I know that the last two years and this application process have helped me grow and develo as a young adult.

Thank you everyone.

God Bless.

How long had you been waiting to hear something from West Point about the waiver choice? I'm sorry that this happened to you. Wishing you well in all your future endeavors!

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. It's probably cold comfort but it appears that God (or whatever power you believe in) has other plans for you. In life, sometimes a path you didn't expect and/or want to take turns out to be golden. I hope that is the case for you.

I'm glad you've found this site helpful. Please let others know we're out here and ready to help!

Fair winds and following seas.

Daaltaraan,

Sorry bud, but you are giving up waaaaay too soon. My son was also denied a medical waiver to West Point a year ago (during his senior year in high school). He applied and was granted a medical waiver for AROTC and received a full ride to college (he's majoring in electrical engineering). He re-applied to West Point this year, received a nomination from both his MOC and his XO - was later granted a medical waiver from DoDMERB to West Point for the 2017 class.

In other words, your race isn't over yet - unless you want it to be.

You're right. I haven't given up hope. Just hope for the class of 2017. I still am track for AROTC. I set up a meeting with the head of AROTC at KU where we are going to go through all the possibilities including an appeal process. I still desire to be an Officer. I wrote that post a few minutes after being called by my RC. It was in the heat of the moment and now that I look back on it, it seems a little forlorn. Let me you leave you no doubt, I am doing anything and everything to become an Officer in the US Army.

Daaltaraan,

your journey has just started... Did you receive a waiver from cadet command for your AROTC scholarship? If so do you mind sharing what is was for? Thanks and best of luck to you getting to WP.

I have not received word on a waiver from Cadet Command. I have a meeting tomorrow with a leuitenent colonel at KU. He and I are going to work together to look at possible paths and see if we can actually hear from Cadet Command. They have been silent for a while. The condition I was DQ'ed was history of nephritis. However, there is a strange backstory to that. I have never been diagnosed or treated for nephritis. Nor does my family doctor believe I had it. I had some sort of illness when I was ten and when test results returned nothing then a local doctor said it might be nephritis. However, this was enough to get me DQ'ed. It is out of my control what they think, so I will explore my other options.

Good Luck!

Good luck to ya kid. I hope they understand there is no history of the illness.
