In the March board, I just found out that I was awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship. I am concerned about the deadlines though. I need to have a DODMERB physical and I have heard all the horror stories of the ridiculous things they will disqualify you and the difficulties incurred while trying to appeal these decisions. I don't want to accept my Army ROTC Scholarship, to only find out that I fail the DODMERB physical (don't get me wrong, there's nothing in my record that would concern me, but with the DODMERB you never know) and then be left footing the bill to a school that I can't afford, meanwhile I had another academic full scholarship to another school that I would have taken if I wasn't awarded an ROTC Scholarship. Is this a potential problem I could run into? How long is the typical waiting time for a physical appointment and could that cause problems with scholarship acceptance deadlines? Essentially, will I know if I have passed or failed the physical by the time I need to accept or decline the scholarship?

You can accept the scholarship prior to completing the DoDMERB physical. In fact that process won't be started, as I understand it, until you accept the scholarship. If you can accept your other scholarship without being legally obligated to attend the other school you should do that as well. If necessary I would send deposits to both colleges as insurance if perchance you are disqualified by DoDMERB. All bases covered. Of course you could also go with the bird in the hand and wonder the rest of your life... not that it's a bad choice but it is something you would probably look back on and wonder about from time to time.

Thank you. I will definitely send deposits then to both schools so that I am safe just in case DODMERB gives me problems. Thank you.:thumb:

Quick process for our DS

Our DS had his physical 3/4 and got a call 3/14 to say that he was going to be qualified as of 4/12. He needed to be off a medication for acne for an 8 week period that was his only "remedial" and it required no action from us. I was amazed at the speed. Like you he is healthy with just a few "quirky" things that we did report for fear of them being a problem if not reported. We did request medical records asap and had many of those in hand. Do that now! It takes a day or so to fill out all of those releases and speak to the doctors. Read the list of things that will be a DQ. Listen to the experts here, they were so helpful to us! Good Luck!
