Early Action Admission

Some EA decisions (both good and bad news) are being mailed early this year, but all will be mailed by December 15th.
How do you know letters will go out by the 15th? Also, I am pretty sure there will not be any "rejection" letters at this point, simply deferrals? Am I wrong?

I believe Objee is an official USCGA Admissions Officer, that's how.

Does anyone know if the status will change on our online profiles reflecting the EA results? I live overseas where customs tends to hold on to mail without a whole lot of consistency, and I'm not sure how much longer I (or my parents) can take this! Haha, I may just have to sweat it out like everyone else :bounce:

Luigi! Thank you for letting me know about Objee--I am new...had suspected but wasn't sure.
My son is also waiting on an EA decision. Got LOA for Annapolis, waiting on nomination for that...but Coast Guard would be better :) His grandfather is USCGA class of 57 (I think) and is anxiously waiting just like the rest of us! We are in Maryland...nomination will be pretty tough to get...

Objee -- would you tell us why the letters are staggered in their

going out? I imagined them all going out on one day... and arriving all around the country within a few days of each other depending on the postal service.

Are they going out by alphabetical order? Or by some other process that you could share about?

I'm just curious.

EA (and Regular Admissions for that matter) is divided into rounds...each round consisting of approx. 125-150 files that are under review by the CCEB. In the past, we would wait until all EA rounds were complete and then mail all the letters out at once; however, we decided to try something different this year and send some/most notifications out as soon as the round is complete and the results have been approved by the Director of Admissions and Superintendent. Files are typically assigned to rounds in the order they are completed, so this new system should allow applicants who completed their application earlier to also learn their results earlier.

Unfortunately, your online profile will not display your status; however, Admissions Officers have been known (in the past) to provide updates via e-mail to applicants living overseas...I'd recommend checking in with LTJG Bladen around 12/22 if you haven't received anything.

That is very interesting and informative. Thank you for

taking the time to explain the process.

Waiting and praying.

Well, a letter just arrived and son is not home from school so it is sitting on the counter (burning a hole)--Okay I looked at it in the light and it looks like a deferral...Oh well, kid will be disappointed, but hopefully things will work out in regular decision. I really want to read that letter to see what he needs to do next. I will update you guys.

Oh dear! How long until he gets home? We've still no

mail from USCGA yet... but, Christmas Eve isn't here yet and we know from Objee that there is a process of "rounds". So... we wait.

Please let us know what your news is! Best wishes.

Okay, here it is. A deferral.
Letter starts with: "This year we received a record number of highly qualified Early Action applicants, exceeding the number of appoinments we set aside. After a thorough review of your record by the Cadet Candidate Evaluation Board, we have decided to defer your application to Regular Admissions. Historically, a significant portion of Early Action applicants will receive appointments later and your record will be reconsidered..."

Okay, my husband remembers that from the Admissions Brief at AIM, that they said about 60% of EA applicants who don't get EA appointments, end up getting them under regular admission...so we continue to watch and pray. See you on these boards for the next several months :)

I just got an email from Associate Director for Operations saying that some letters were sent out by mistake, some that said like the application would be reviewed under regular admission, I dont know how many people got this email, I guess I'll just have to wait and see..

PMLutton,
I will say a prayer for your son, as well. If it is in His plan, he will get the Appointment in Regular Admission, will be my prayer... My son was excited to get the call last night, and now can rest a little easier.
Is CGA his first choice? He has the LOA from Navy, correct?
Best Wishes!!!

Oh my, what do you mean??? My son got a deferral letter today, saying they would review for regular admission. I am going to check my email! "by mistake" can you quote the email you got? What does that mean?? The director of operations at USCGA? Did they send it to you directly saying you were one of the "mistakes."? I am hanging on by a thread, this is weird. Here's hoping for all of you (and my son :) too.

Bambino, Thank you for the prayers and good wishes. Our son would go to any academy at this point. He does have an LOA from USNA and so we are waiting on (hoping for) MOC nomination. An appt. from USCGA would have been awesome because he could then rest easy and concentrate on school like your son. Here's hoping. Did you see the post from Corbearofskiing? I wonder what that email is all about?? Fingers crossed :)

did you get one of those letters?

I wouldn't worry. That post from corbear did not sound like it applied to you(if it is real...:) Some like to joke on here.) Check your email and have your son check his; otherwise dismiss the worry!

oh my, joking about this would be very cruel...since we did get the letter he seems to quote. Anyway, sorry to be gullible, always holding out that shred of hope. Okay, now we re-group and keep our ducks in a row. Thanks Bambino (by the way, why "Bambino? " my son was born in Naples, Italy so it sounds familiar...) I am very happy that your son is getting in, this whole thing is such an experience! I will keep you posted on my son's progress. Is USCGA your son's first choice? Is there a chance we would see you at USNA indoc instead? What fun!
Have a nice evening!

My son participated in an on-line chat with the Admissions office last week and he thought that he read one response from Admissions indicating they were mailing out 100 acceptances this past Monday (11/10) and the other 100 next Monday (11/17). The rest of the applicants would be deferred to regular admission, but would be notified by 12/24 either way.

We've not received anything (rushing home to check the mail daily) but we are wondering if anyone was fortunate enough to get the good news. Thanks for any info!

I have been reading some of the posts on facebooks, and there are a few that have gotten acceptance letters already... we continue to run to our mailbox daily... to no avail :(

My younger son just got home, and called me at work to say: nope nothing from the CGA :( although we are getting lots from civililian universities. :(
