Okay, so I was told I should look into applying for the MSI scholarship at FAMU, and as I'm reading the requirements I come across this paragraph, here's what it says:

"Demonstrate high academic performance and a strong background in math and science from high school or in a college environment. If in college, students must have completed at least one but not more than four academic terms, totaling less than one year, of college course work of 30 total credits or less with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 and a grade of "C" or better in all courses attempted. The college transcript must validate completion of one academic term of college level math or science and the potential for successful completion of all NROTC academic requirements;"

What I DONT understand is, how can someone have completed 4 academic terms WITHOUT hitting 30 credits? I take like 17 credits per semester and I have already hit the 60 credits required for the AA transfer degree. This hasn't affected my National Scholarship because when I applied I had less than 30 credits. My deal is, why does this say that the applicant must have completed ONE academic term, but not MORE THAN 4? Well ok, lets say I did THREE academic terms at 12 credits per term, well that STILL puts me at 42, which is obviously more than 30. Either I'm reading this wrong, or they made a mistake. If I am reading this wrong, well then I guess I'm disqualified.

What do you guys think?

Some colleges are on trimester or quarter schedules. A semester, trimester, and quarter, are all academic terms. So I would think this might explain it. So 3 quarters would be less than 1 year and is probably also less than 30 credits. Guessing here, but I'm pretty sure its the correct guess.

Yeah I get that, but this particular school (FAMU) goes by semesters for their terms. (Mine does also).

Man I have the worst luck ever with this, it's like it's not meant to be:/

MSI NROTC Scholarships

Don’t get hung up on the FAMU site. There are many inaccuracies there. Check the MSI page on the national NROTC site. If you have any Q’s on eligibility or the application process, I would contact the Candidate Guidance Office in Pensacola, not FAMU. Ask them if you can apply for a 2-year MSI scholarship. I can almost guarantee you that you will have the scholarship in a matter of weeks. The bottom line is that they can’t give the MSI NROTC scholarships away. Seriously. They never give out all the MSI scholarships. That’s why the deadline is June 30, not January 31 like it is for the National NROTC scholarship. What’s the catch? You have to attend a MSI school, like FAMU. You cannot attend FSU. Race is not a factor. You can receive an MSI scholarship if you are Caucasian. The MSI NROTC scholarship provides the exact same benefits that a regular national NROTC provides. Because you likely have Junior standing, you would have to attend NSI in Newport, RI this summer. You’ll take the 2 years on NROTC classes you missed. It’s intense. It’s run by Marine drill instructors and NROTC Unit LTs. Shaved heads, lots of yelling, up at 0430. You get the idea. But it’s easy to pass if you don’t quit. I did it.
