Reduced Tuition for non-scholarship ROTC cadet

I was told by a OOS large public school ROTC battalion that without a scholarship or SMP I would gain instate tuition by enrolling in AROTC as a non-scholarship cadet . Is this unheard of for ROTC? Through all my research I never knew this fact until the face to face meet with the PMS. If anyone could give me some insight on this I would appreciate it.

I've personally never heard this. I am assuming, you just mean for Army ROTC? ... definitely will not question the judgement of a LTC though ...

I would be surprised if this happened too. I don't see what the incentive is for admissions to drop your OOS tuition fee, and reduce it to IS. I have heard of schools, when awarded ROTC scholarship for tuition, the school will pay for R&B ... but never what you have just stated.

...then again I may very well be wrong.

Perhaps Clarkson or Marist can give you better insight to this.

Texas A&M does this for all members of the Corps of Cadets. North Georgia does this also. Ther very well may be others.
 
I've had friends that have been offered the same thing by other schools. It seems (not in all cases) to be used as a sort of "scholarship" when they maybe don't have an ROTC scholarship available to give out, that way they can atleast lower the burden for the cadet.
 
In my son's NROTC unit, non-scholarship OOS cadets who complete freshman orientation receive a scholarship that brings their tuition down to near in-state rates. My son already had an academic scholarship that did the same thing so unfortunately he couldn't take advantage of it. So yes, I can see this happening in some schools and various ROTCs. In our case this was funded by the unit's alumni association in conjunction with the school. Not sure who picked up what portions but it was there. And it's not an SMC either (I guess he said obviously).
 
It's not like an individualized offer its a policy for all cadets in ROTC. The school is LSU if it helps. I'm not sure if its a school policy or all of Louisiana public university's.

Then that sounds like the school is rewarding ROTC cadets by having that policy. If they're offering it, take it.
