I was not offered an appointment to the academy for the class of 2017 :frown:. I plan to reapply next year because I really want to go to the Coast Guard Academy. I am also going to community college next year for school. Do you guys have any tips for reapplying, or going to community college and reapplying to the academy? Thank you!

Consider Marion Military Insitute

You may want to consider enrolling in Marion Military Institute's Service Academy Prep program if you have strong academics and are well rounded. Marion has a strong history of preparing USCGA Scholars and Self Preps for the Coast Guard Academy. Best of luck with your future. :thumb:

No need to go to a military prep school. Many successful "re-applys" enroll at State U or the local community college. It's not really a matter of "where" but more a matter of "what did you take (and pass)."

If you take (and excel in) "swab-level" courses at the local college, continue to keep fit and be involved in community, sports, volunteering, etc - you will have a solid foundation on which to apply again.

A 4/c (swab) course load includes (both semesters):

Calculus 1
Calculus 2
Chemistry 1
Chemistry 2
Statistics & Eng Design
MacroEconomics
English Comp
Writing/Lit
History
Swimming
Navigation
Personal Fitness
Personal Defense

Luigi59 is correct. My son did not get accepted his first go around. He went to a traditional college did very well (deans list), stayed in shape and was accepted the next year. God willing he will graduate in 52 days. The competition is tougher these days and the slots are fewer so you need to do everything you can to separate yourself from the rest. Good Luck!

CGAHopeful: Best of luck and i hope you get in next year. Keep at it and go for it. Meanwhile--do you mind if we ask when and how you were notified?? Were you notified on Friday thru the mail, phone call, etc?? Thanks--again--good luck in the future.

Luigi59 and proudmom2013, Thank you!

djed, My decision was posted online about two weeks ago. They sent it out by email.

I'm wondering if the CGA has made all of their decisions? I'm still on "hold" for the USMMA, and have received an NROTC scholarship, but my "reach" school has always been the USCGA. Can anyone out there tell me what's up? Objee?

I forgot to add in my last post that I wondered whether luigi59 was a 1959 grad of the USCGA? My grandfather is a 1959 grad.

No, I am not.

The "59" in my name represents the atomic number of praseodymium (a lanthanide).

No change to what was published in the Applicant Handbook back in August...if you applied under Regular Admission, you'll be notified of your decision no later than April 15th. We're hoping to finalize everything by next Thursday and release the final e-notification letters on Friday, 4/12, but we'll definitely be done by Monday, 4/15.
