Nick0726, University of North Georgia (one of the other six senior military colleges) gives in state tuition to all out of state student who are in the Army ROTC Corps of cadets. $18,500 total cost 1st year and around $16,700 the remaining 3 years. If you get additional scholarships or military enlistment programs (SMP, AROTC, STEM or other tpyes of military aid) it reduces the cost even more. All other out of state student not in the Corps pay OOS tuition.
You should still apply to other out of state schools (weather military or regular colleges/universities because, depending on you and your families financial information (FASFA paperwork) you could very well end up receiving financial aid directly from the school without and military scholarships or SMP, that you end up paying very close to in state tuition or maybe even less.
My son applied to three out of state SMC's (VMI, Citadel, & UNG) as well as TAMU and Tarleton State here in Texas where we live. In the end he chose VMI. They gave him so much financial aid his first year, it will cost him less than any of the other colleges, including TAMU and Tarleton here in Texas where he would have paid in state tution.
It depends on your families income, and how many other kids in the family primarily. Just make sure you and your parents fill out and submitt your FASFA paperwork online before the deadlines. The quicker you do FASFA at the beginning of the year, the better. Some colleges give aid on a first come first serve, so if you don't submit your FASFA until late March or later, you may not get as much aid as if you'd filled FASFA in late January/early February.
From what I've read on this forum, Norwich University, which is the only private Senior military colleges gives most ROTC students scholarships that bring the total yearly costs to the same amount as in state students.
I can't give you any direct knowledge about VT, but my Son would have paid over $19,000 total cost his first year at TAMU wheat her he joins ROTC or not. He'll pay less that $18,000 at VMI this coming fall because of the aid he's received so far. He has several more scholarships he's waiting to hear back on, but we're pretty confident he will get a few more thousand dollars of financial aid and only have to pay out of pocket between $10-16,000 his first year. That's way better than the sticker price of $43,480 for OOS at VMI and even better that the $19,700 he'd have paid at TAMU as an in star student.
