CNN Reports that the Blue Angels have canceled all of their 2013 performances.

Read the article here.

It looks like the performance during Commissioning Week has also been scrapped.

"The next performance still on the schedule would have been at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on May 22, part of the graduation festivities at the academy."
 
It's a shame. Especially with all the waste Washington does with our money, things like angels and thunderbirds actually perform a great service. The thunderbirds flew EVERY YEAR since 1953 in Cheyenne Wyoming for Frontier Days. This will be the first year in 60 years they'll miss it.

I have no problem with rules, policies, laws, etc... if they serve a purpose. even if i don't agree with it. But when the government makes all these cuts, yet, they don't retract a million dollars they gave to study sex among snails; or $227,000 to study pictures in National Geographic. Granted, some grants were given PRIOR to sequestration, but there's no reason the government couldn't have rescinded those grants. This year alone, the federal government will/has spent $140 BILLION DOLLARS on research and development. Some worthy; some not. Like why do they need to give a grant to study food menus for astronauts who some day will land on Mars.

Point is; it saddens me when the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds can't perform. But I understand sometimes we need to tighten the belt and make cuts. But is studying the length of a Duck's penis or how often snails have sex, more important than the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, or ALL those people that will get furloughs and basically a pay cut?

It's about time somebody spoke up for the ducks. Keep your cotton-pickin hands off. The snails on the other hand like it when scientists are watching.
 
Maybe they can get the "Pukin Dogs" for the flyover again.:thumb: I think there is a very old trainer in a hanger at Cherry Point that might be available?
 
There is no doubt that the expense is enormous to keep FA/18s in the air. The great jet pilots would be training somewhere though, whether there was an air show or not. Their ground crew is substantial, and no doubt costs money to maintain, and that cost is significant.

BUT... The feeling of pride that I get when they perform is overwhelming. Seeing them in action shows me what we have at our disposal. When I see the quality of the servicemembers on that team I feel good. I feel protected. I am sure there are thousands of others that feel the same way. They are indeed a fantastic recruiting tool, but more than that, they give us faith in our military.

We can't see the great Americans fighting for us in Afghanistan or Iraq, but we can take pride in those blue planes as they impress and amaze us every time the fly.

I'm looking forward to their return.

Military demonstration flying teams (the Blue Angles, Thunderbirds) and parachute teams (Golden knights) all need to go by the waste side. They do nothing to support the mission of the Military except recruiting....and I think the money could be better spent in other areas for recruiting purposes.

I know people who say we should get rid of the military bands....but they give more good will to the public then any of the above mentioned teams and cost far less to the taxpayers.

Anyways, I say it is far overdue.
