I'm currently a high school junior and very interested in going into the Army. However, I'm not sure if I want to enlist after high school or possibly do ROTC, attend one of the service academies or attend one of the senior military schools such as VMI. My high school stats aren't very impressive, so I would most likely attend one of the senior military schools.

I've been reading a lot about VMI and am really interested in possibly attending their if I get accepted. However, I still have a lot of questions.

1) What is the daily routine like at VMI? Is it just like the service academies?

2) Can you earn a scholarship at VMI after your first year?

3) What's the typical class size (first year cadets, second year...etc)?

4) Do cadets attend military schools over the summer?

What makes you think you can get into one of the SMC's with a less-than-impressive high school record? The Citadel and VMI have pretty competitive admissions standards, especially for out-of-state applicants. I can't really speak with knowledge about Norwich or North Georgia.

You can find this at Vmi.edu Most military colleges are similar, formations for meals, PT, and classes followed by military/ROTC training.
2) Can you earn a scholarship at VMI after your first year?
Yes, all the ROTC's offer 3 and 2 year scholarships, but you have to earn them through exceptional grades, PT, performance, etc...
3) What's the typical class size (first year cadets, second year...etc)?
Class size ratio is 14:1, but if you mean # of cadets there is about 500 first year aka fourthclassmen/rats, 450 "sophomores" aka third classmen, and the rest is the upperclass.
4) Do cadets attend military schools over the summer?

Attendance of military training schools like airborne and air assault? Yes, it is based off a competitive OML that weighs in PT scores, grades, performance and behavior. You sign up and see if you're chosen. I've seen guys with airborne, air assault, mountain warfare (army), french jungle warfare, german military proficiency, combat diver, and...that's all I can think of right now.

Lastly I'm a 4th classman at VMI, and if you have any questions go ahead and PM me. Rah Virginia Mil.
