Hi everyone,

I've asked this question on other threads but I haven't received any assistance just yet. I received my DODMERB paperwork yesterday in the mail. As it turns out, my AROTC status changed but I have yet to receive any letter or email offering me a scholarship. Is this something to be worried about? I don't want to miss my deadlines to accept or decline this scholarship. Lastly, what would I need to do inorder to transfer it to another college? (I received a scholarship to a college that I have not been accepted to)

1) the website doesn't list all schools you may have recieved a scholarship to attend so you may still be ok with your school choice.
2) CALL the ROO at the school and ask them your questions.
3) E-mail the CC (address is on website) and tell them you have not reieved paperwork yet!

Lastly, what would I need to do inorder to transfer it to another college? (I received a scholarship to a college that I have not been accepted to)
I'm a bit confused with what you are saying. You said that you have been awarded a scholarship from the March board, but have yet to receive your paperwork via snail mail? If that is the case, you should have received your documentation quite some time ago, as board results were released mid-March, with the letters usually arriving a few days after the portal was updated.

If this is the case, you NEED to get on the ball and contact either CC, or the ROO at the school of your choice ASAP. Something is wrong if you haven't received your documentation yet, but have already received your DoDMERB papers.

And to answer your question, what you would have to do is, write a letter requesting a transfer request (and why) and include the copy of addmittance to that school in your package to CC. However, you are too late to request a transfer, deadline for transfers was April 12th. I'm not sure how that will work in your case though.

It's possible an exception might be made regarding a transfer in your case since you did not receive your paperwork explaining this.

I was thinking this - but I was also thinking about it from CC's perspective. In the sense, that if the OP didn't receive the papers within 2 weeks, why didn't the OP poke around and figure out why the papers were never received/sent --> looking for initiative? But that's just how I was thinking of it.

You could very well be right, but it's worth OPs taking a shot at it anyway.

Okay, here's the thing... I checked for two weeks after the Match board, but my status never changed. So I went about my business until Friday when I found the letter for my DODMERB sitting in the mail box. The letter itself was sent on 16th of April. This leads me to believe that I was given one of the scholarships that someone else turned down. Personally, I think it would be fair to have the ability to transfer due to this rare occasion, but who knows what will happen. My ultimate goal is to use this scholarship at The Citadel (where I have been accepted) as opposed to the other school where I never applied. I don't even recall the school as being one of my top 5.

@kinnem - Of course!!

Wait -- so did your portal ACTUALLY change to saying that you were awarded a scholarship? What does your portal say? Just because you got DoDMERB papers doesn't mean that you were awarded a scholarship. I've read on these forums that in the past, applicants were sent DoDMERB papers before/possibly being awarded a scholarship. Did you apply to any SA's?

Thompson is correct. You're leaping to conclusions. Sometimes folks are sent to Dodmerb before being awarded a scholarship. In any case, once again, you need to contact someone to straighten out whatever needs to be straightened out.

This is what it says in the status message: "You have been offered an Army ROTC Scholarship. We must receive your acceptance/declination by the date in your letter or the offer will be withdrawn. Your name will be sent to DODMERB the day your winner letter is printed. There will be about 72 workweek hours prior to being able to see your name in the DODMERB system. If you have already had a DODMERB physical performed, Cadet Command will request that information from DODMERB. If you have not taken a DODMERB physical, Cadet Command will submit your information to DODMERB who will notify you to schedule a physical.

You have been offered an Army ROTC Scholarship at...

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIV

pending medical qualification from Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB). If you have already had a DODMERB physical performed, Cadet Command will request that information from DODMERB. If you have not taken a DODMERB physical, Cadet Command will submit your information to DODMERB who will notify you to schedule a physical."

Now I'm pretty certain that means I've been offered a scholarship.... and to answer your question from before, I have not applied to any SAs.

I would agree, you have been offered a scholarship but you don't know when. I would call the ROO at SC State Monday am as well as CC. The ROO may be easier to get ahold of.

Okay - I just wanted to check, because what you said early confused me.

From here, I would recommend you contact both the ROO at your school of choice AND your CC point of contact (the name listed on all CC snail mail) on Monday ASAP! Hopefully one of them will be congratulating you on receiving a scholarship to your 1st choice. If not, when you ask them about transferring you need to SPECIFICALLY tell them about your missing documentation issue. If you do not, they might pass you over since they will be under the assumption that you knew about the April 12th deadline.

Good Luck!

OK. So you have definitely been offered a scholarship. South Carolina may be only one of the schools to which you've been offered a scholarship. The letter you were supposed to receive may (or may not) contain more schools. Phone calls on Monday are in order. You can also try calling the unit at South Carolina to see if they can help you sort things out. In the meantime proceed with the DoDMERB stuff.

BTW, South Carolina is an excellent school and the unit may be able to assist with getting you in if you didn't apply. My DS is in the NROTC unit there. If South Carolina is the only school to which you were awarded a scholarship transferring it to the Citadel may be extremely difficult due to Citadel probably being full and also the cost differential. Even if South Carolina was not on your list of schools, it may be one of the only schools where they had openings, hence the award there. If that is the case all the more reason they may assist with getting you into the school.

They have about 100 students in the AROTC unit there. I got to chat with a couple of them last week while visiting my son. They were on their way back to the unit after doing their swim qualification tests at the Blatt. Nice kids. As the NROTC Marine Options do some training during the school year at Ft. Jackson I imagine the AROTC kids definitely do so. It's a great place to be in any ROTC program.

Kinnem - I think USC and South Carolina State are two different schools.

Let me see if I understand this...

You have an offer for South Carolina State, a school you did not apply to. It wasn't in your top 5, but was it anywhere on your application? Transferring from a school anywhere on your list requires you not to have been accepted. That implies you applied. However, CC sometimes awards scholarships to schools not on your list which kind of puts you in a position to exchange it, if you can find a school in the same Brigade with a scholarship slot.

You've applied to Citadel and have been accepted. You'd like to transfer the scholarship. Unfortunately, the SMCs are in a different (1st IIRC) Brigade than all other schools. Transferring between brigades is almost impossible.

However, if there is another school(s) where you have been accepted in the same brigade as South Carolina State, you stand a small chance of transfer. I'd call that school's PMS, explain your situation, and find out if they have all their scholarships accepted.

Indeed... Those are two different schools. So is there any likely hood that I may be given consideration for a transfer to The Citadel due to receiving my scholarship late? Also, if Im unable to transfer there, could I possibly transfer to USC or Clemson? Lastly if I am to attend SCSU, could I transfer my second year to The Citadel? Sorry for asking all of these questions... I just really want to know.

I'd call that school's PMS, explain your situation, and find out if they have all their scholarships accepted.
I was under the impression that transfers actually move the scholarship from Bn X to Bn Y, and is not dependent on whether all slots at Bn Y are filled? Essentially, a transfer adds another slot to Bn Y. Am I mistaken?

Yup. Misread it. Essence of what i posted about assistance getting into the school still applies if it was not on his list though.

Each Bde has a set number of scholarships divided between the various Bns. Each Bn has a set number of scholarships in any given year. Calling the Bns in the same Bde as SCSU to see which may yet have another scholarship open would be a practical way to ensure a transfer (through CC of course) is going to work.

I believe USC and Clemson are in the same Bde as SCSU. Citadel is not.

To answer OP's other question, transferring a scholarship after year 1 within a Bn is up to the PMS. Within the Bde is unlikely unless you are changing to a major not offered at that school. Transfer to Citadel isn't going to happen.

Is it possible to have an offer from two different brigades in your letter? Keep in mind, I haven't received the formal letter in writing as of right now.
