Academy Experience
By invitation only: Join future members of your Coast Guard Academy Class for Academy Experience. Students with appointments to the freshman class are encouraged to schedule the orientation to interact with faculty, staff, coaches and cadets to familiarize themselves with expectations of the upcoming year. Students will attend classes, eat in the cadet wardroom, participate in meaningful discussions with cadets, learn about a wide range of cadet support programs and have the opportunity to observe sports practices (or games when available) or club activities. The Academy Experience also includes a comprehensive Q&A session for parents. Participants will enjoy meeting future classmates and depart well prepared for Reporting Day.

Fall Cadet-for-a-Day

By invitation only: Is an Academy education right for you? Join other high school seniors as you shadow a cadet for 24 hours and explore this question. Attend classes and a team practice, eat in the cadet wardroom, and learn what cadet life is like first-hand. Opportunities to meet with coaches, faculty members, and admissions staff are available. Program includes a Q&A session and cadet-led tour of campus for parents. With prior arrangement, you may complete your admissions interview at this time.

Ditto ! :)

haha I would love to be able to do that but of coase I am stuck at school till 2 o'clock! Not cool.

NOthing today in mail...

No mail for us today (rushed home during lunch) from CGA here in New England. With 700 EA applicants, I don't think that there has been a large number of people who have posted here regarding their status. Perhaps admissions won't be sending out the majority of letters until 12/15? Just trying to rationalize our situation here...haha

Also, to put the importance of this in perspective, yesterday my son ran to the mail on the counter and noticed a large envelope (acceptance letter) from a college that he was previously very interested in. He pushed it to the side without opening it, looking for an envelope from CGA!

Oh, yes, I know all about the pushing aside of over envelopes.

Pity the poor folks who call here hoping to encourage darling son to consider their school... he only has eyes for USCGA! He's completely love sick. It was bad enough before AIM, but since he got home from AIM, it is his only desire.

I'm glad he has a goal and purpose in this life. So many young folks the ages of our children seem to be wandering lost. We're blessed that they are so focused and have admirable determination to study, serve, and lead.

Success at AIM is a good indicator of success at the Coast Guard Academy.

Typically, 50% of AIM grads earn appointments.

Keep the faith! :thumb:

Those are good odds.

He is studying hard right now for SAT II tests which are required for a $3000 scholarship from husband's company. Wouldn't that be great to get an acceptance to the Academy followed by a $3000 scholarship to pay that incoming fee of the exact same amount !?!

Nothing in the mailbox here in Washington State... :(

Final count for EA will be 768 applicants...so far we have only mailed 278 notification letters. Another 200-225 are scheduled for Thursday and the remainder will go out next Tuesday/Wednesday to arrive prior to 12/24.

Thanks for those stats Objee. Wow - you have a lot

of people to choose from!

Nothing in my mail box ether.
Wow that is A LOT of people who applied for EA. I wonder which one I was? Karma says I am 767...I just know it haha

lol, my karma is telling me that I am 768...its gotta be the luck of the irish in me lol.

No letter here in NJ I'm afraid...I think my parents want to hurt me, I've banned everyone from opening the mailbox except for me. And my neighbor's my mailman, so I dont think he appreciates it either.

Thank you OBJEE

Thanks so much. That was very helpful information for us here. Thanks for taking the time to post!

baseball mom - have your sons' status (stati?) changed on

DoDMERB since the other day?

Have we determined if that means anything or not?

Status on DoDMERB

No, one son's status did not change for CGA since August (prob. the date of his application). The other son's status changed twice; once in Nov and once again in December. Both received word that their apps were complete on 10/17. What I have observed is that their DoDMERB application status changes on the website when a decision is made at the various service academies. Both sons received LOA's and their app. statuses changed on that day. Both also received NROTC scholarships, and again, statuses changed. Haha...this certainly keeps the family wondering and guessing at the dinner table! Several acceptances have come in over the past few days and (for me anyway) it's taking the pressure off somewhat.

My daughter graduated high school a few years ago and I remember all of this wondering and waiting all too well. Things worked out fine for her and she's doing extremely well. My advice to my kids has always been that hard work always seems to bring good luck. Anyway...I'm vowing not to rush home to the mailbox tomorrow! Anyone else have any more observations about thier status on DoDMERB?
