I am qns for the class of 2017 so I'm spending a year at KU. And I would like to take the same courses as a plebe to increase my chances of being accepted for the class of 2018

Isn't a gymnastics class included somewhere in there? My brother mentioned he had to take one his plebe year.

Yeah but it is called Military Movement, and there is boxing, and plebe drowning/swimming if you are a rock. But it doesn't do any good to take those at a civilian university as you can't validate them. Even the Corps Squad gymnastic team takes Mil Movement.

I understand that gymnastics is inherently a very physically demanding sport, but how hard is Military Movement for an individual with zero gymnastics experience?

From my understanding of conversations with my brother (class of 2012) it is challenging but not impossible, and only so because it involves movements which many plebes have never attempted before. Don't sweat it. Boxing, on the other hand, gets rough and the instructors do not mind if people get knocked out. You will take this your second semester as a plebe, and fight at least 3 times against other cadets in your weight class.

Wouldn't be the first time:wink: In OSUT it was the same but we couldn't hit the Drill Sergeants back

You could take it first or second semester during the first or second half of either semester. The gym classes are assigned randomly like that.

Don't worry about boxing, it's considerably safer than it used to be. Just don't get paired up with someone on the boxing team.

It is challenging but not impossible. It's not as if one can pass it just by showing up to class, but every cadet who graduates passed it at some point.

In Boxing, the instructors DO care whether people get permanently injured as a result of their class. They will stop a bout if it looks like someone is injured or got hurt. I'm not saying that they are soft on students, but there is little to no risk of permanent injury as a result of plebe boxing. That said, expect to get hit in the head/face at least once per class. You'll have at a bare minimum three bouts with people in your weight class. The class' purpose is to teach physical confidence, which it does very well.

While you are still home, go find some little gymnast cousin or friend and have them teach you how to do a cartwheel, hand stand and round-off. Military movement has a lot of gymnastics in it - we called it revenge of the little people.
