Whew! Scholarship awarded, DoDMERB Qualified, Deposit made, Housing secured and spoke with the on-campus cadre (DS is at a cross-town affiliate), so now what's next? (I guess the hurry up and wait continues!)

PS - After hearing all the DQ'd stories, I was a little worried that DS would be for childhood asthma (infancy really) and was prepared for the waiver process; however, he was qualified right off the bat (perhaps the note his doctor wrote for him did the trick). Thanks to the forum for that advice! :shake:

Great news regarding Dodmerb.

As far as Next Steps:

Stay out of any trouble.
Work out and Run, be ready to pass the APFT day one.
Don't do anything to risky that might cause a major injury.
The Battalion may send paper work over the summer to fill out.

At some point get in touch with the college advisor, start making a 4 year plan. You can download a 104R form and start working on the plan, this will be the harder of all the forms to fill out, best to get started early if you can.

Did I mention running.

Other then that, enjoy the end of high school and have a great summer.

Excellent advice all around.

As a parent, if you have a reason to go to freshman orientation, take the opportunity to meet the cadre so you know who your son is talking about. Beyond that, you won't have much contact with the unit.

Typically, freshmen get adviser time at orientation. He should (assuming he knows his major) be versed in the course catalog and come with the core requirements mapped out on a 104r if he can.

Thanks for the advice. DS talked to the cadre today, he mentioned filling out paperwork. I assume that includes the 104r. He suggested he just go down there to fill it out. Will investigate it out. Other than that, looks like I can sit back and relax:wink: While DS will be running, running and running! :yllol:

What does cadre mean?

A good question!
from Merriam-Webster:
a nucleus or core group especially of trained personnel able to assume control and to train others; broadly : a group of people having some unifying relationship <a cadre of lawyers>

In ROTC, in my limited experience, it seems to refer to the military folks assigned to the unit. In other places it seems to refer to the upper class (Jrs and Seniors) who are in leadership positions and not include the career people.
