withdrawing appointment

After a very hard decision making process, I have decided to turn back my USMA appointment. Does anyone know the protocol to do that? Is it just a letter to the RC?

Have you accepted the appointment and want to rescind or are you just deciding not to accept?
There's a form you have to sign and mail back to turn it down but if you never accepted, by tomorrow or after May 1st, it's a moot point. They'll assume you don't want to go. You may also call admissions and let them know. Good luck with your future endeavours.

I accepted it because of the April 12 deadline but had my overnight visit just last week. While I was leaning toward the other school, I just couldn't fail to give USMA a final look. I will pull out the form and get a letter off ASAP.

My future is still to be an Army Officer. I just was blessed to have the choice between USMA and an unique academic opportunity at a college with a great ROTC program.

Hopefully, this will create a vacancy that can be filled by one of the hopefuls still waiting here on SAF.

It's a very big decision to make and just like you, it took me a long time to decide. I have mailed my declination forms and received calls from the respective SA admissions rep. It may be different for every SA but it may not hurt to give them a call before the deadline just in case the form you mail doesn't get there in time. Like you have stated, it opens up a slot for someone on the waiting list. Congratulations on your decision to serve. Someone will be glad to take up that slot.

If you mean how do you turnaround and decline after you have already accepted - the best way is to 1) Send an email to your RC and 2) Follow up with a phone call to them. The email will serve as the documentation to change your status - but it needs to be from the email address associated with your account. The phone call is just good manners.
