It is hard to believe, but 4 years have simply flown by. A few bumps, but I'm proud that my son, is Commissioning and graduating this month!

He has received a slot as a Physicist and will be reporting to AFIT at WP-AFB in August to go right into the Physics Master program. If I could do it again and get my MS by 24...

It has been awesome watching this young man grow up, wear a uniform with pride, and exhibit the leadership skills that we know will take him far in his AF career.

I would like to thank those that have helped us with questions over the years. You have truly helped us and many others here.

Good luck to all Cadets that choose this path - it is worth the effort!

Congratulations. How proud you all must be!!! Can't wait until it's my turn to say the same, but I'll take the time to savor each moment between now and then. :smile:
 
Congratulations. Your son is clearly one of the 'best and brightest!' The forum has been very helpful to me and my DS, too and we hope to be writing the same post 4 years from now...

Congrats to your son, I'm sure you are very proud. My DS has his last final exam tomorrow, and he will have completed his first year in AFROTC as a Freshman. Can't believe how fast this year has gone, I can remember it seems like yesterday getting advice from PIMA about my wife constantly crying after my DS left to go off to college. Fortunately PIMA was right and my wife finally adjusted, LOL!
 
Thank you all very much and good luck to those of you with young men and women in ROTC as well!

As for the Kleenex...I've already used some and am not too proud to say I'll be using a bunch more soon...
 
Congrats!

It will be an amazing day. If you start to think about crying or feel the tears welling, just think about a yr from now when he will graduate from AFIT; how you will be beaming that day too, but not crying. It will make you smile/laugh and the tears will stop.

That is what I did. I thought about our DS winging on in the future. When I did, it made me smile. It made me realize this was just 1 of the many future proud moments in his life that we will get to see.

I needed a box of kleenex this morning at Commissioning - and my DS won't commission for another 3 years. Very touching ceremony though we didn't know any of the commissionees! So happy to witness this.

Oops, see I need to change my tagline to "Proud mother of NROTC Midshipman 3/C, Class of 2016"!
 
Commissioning!

I realize it is now months later, but I did want to come back and share after his big day.

To start with, I was FINE pinning on his rank and during the family pictures until he hugged me. My lovely bride held it together and had to help me off the stage...I somehow couldn't see LOL! I've watched the video, and it was more like a giant sob...I am a complete softie with my kids, and this was a fantastic moment for us as a family.

Chris has now graduated and leaves in a few weeks for WPAFB as I mentioned earlier. He's pretty jazzed and even has a few other friends attending AFIT at the same time, so he at least knows a few folks there.

It was also time to replace the worn out car he had all through H.S. and College - he picked a BLUE Jeep ;) Air Force Blue he calls it.

Anyway, here are a few pictures as promised:

Thank you all again for being a fantastic resource for not only these young men and women in this program, but also their family members!
 
What wonderful pictures! Thank you for sharing. The longer I'm on this forum, the easier I get choked up when I hear stories about everything these kids are doing. There are so many negative things in the news about our youth of today. I am sometimes fearful for the future of our country when I look at what's going on, and wonder who is going to be qualified to lead as we go forward. Then, I see instances on this forum, time and again, of these kids that are so passionate about their education and their sense of duty to their country. It makes me feel as though we stand a fighting chance.

God bless your son and I wish him the best of luck in the newest chapter of his life adventure!
