Well I can tell you it definitely won't be optional. You'll be drinking out of it a lot anyways and will be glad you have it. You should get a camelback when you arrive. Everyone will have the same camelback. (It's part of being in uniform/the same as everyone else)

"You should" as in it will be issued to us, correct?

Sorry, bad wording. You will get one. I'm not sure if you get it when you arrive or a couple days into the process. I imagine PT starts the next morning :thumb: so you'll probably be issued one on I-day.

Excellent! I've always wanted a camelbak in Tiger Stripes! Too bad they are $100 online.

You will be issued a web belt with a canteen on immediately on I-day (usually the second station coming up the ramp from the footprints), and a black camelback sometime before 2nd BCT.

During BCT, you go everywhere with your web belt and canteen. During Jack's valley, you will wear the canteen AND the camelback. Your hydration is our utmost concern :shake:.

Again, this adds about 10lbs to your lower back when doing pt, and makes pushups oh so fun...

I thought we had to give them back or buy them. Could someone who knows please give me some input on that?

They'll provide it but it's not free. It comes off of your pay:)
Deducted with all your uniform, boots etc.

Nine times out of ten you end up paying more for the issued item than an equivalent product online. So don't get too excited about the "savings".

You will be issued everything you need and it will be taken out of your pay. Remember to hydrate excessively for the high altitude and that means for the day or 2 prior to arriving. Remeber you will be at altitude in the middle of summer. There are regularly those who drop during the swearing in ceremony on the Tzo (plenty of people to help you to the ground). It makes the parents so nervous, please help to limit the anxiety of those new parents on the wall by hydrating :shake::shake:
