My daughter is trying to arrange an auto transport from Colorado Springs to L.A. where her car will then be shipped to her OCONUS base. After submitting for price quotes online and receiving a multitude of texts, calls, and emails, we are becoming skeptical about the broker system. Can anyone recommend an auto transport company or simply shed some light on how best to accomplish this car moving task?

Thank you for your time and help.

Car Transport

Drive it to the Port in LA and fly home or fly to your OConus location out of LA.

I will ask some of the NCO's in my squadron about the process should get you an answer or at least a POC sometime tomorrow. From my experience you shouldn't have to pay out of pocket for this expense but I will get you a straight answer tomorrow.

Unfortunately, driving her vintage 1970 Volkswagen Squareback long distance is not an option. Mostly we are looking for recommendations of reputable auto transport companies instead of choosing one from random online reviews.

Thankfully there will be reimbersement, but my daughter has been unable to find out what dollar amount. Please ask your NCOs if they have had good experiences with particular companies. Thank you.

I have shipped my car long distance twice with good results both times. Never, never, never would I recommend using a broker.....go with a company.

Unfortunately the first one I can't remember, but it was out of Utah or somewhere. The second, most recent, time I used FedEx (or rather what used to be FedEx and is now Passport auto transport.

You may pay a bit more, but it will get there in one piece, with insurance, and you won't have to worry about being blackmailed on the back side.

I've heard great things about Showroom transport. Lots of recommendations on the enlisted Moms message boards.

Has your daughter checked to see if she can bring her vintage 1970 Volkswagen to her overseas assignment? Some of the countries I've been assigned to over the years don't allow cars greater than 10 years old. A 40 plus year old car may be banned (i.e. environmental, pollution control, etc.) reasons.

After having all the crazy-sounding auto transport people calling to offer me the "best deal," that is definitely good advice not to use a broker. However, even the carriers I've talked to use brokers when then need to, though they say they are highly vetted. Passport Transport is on the high end price-wise, but the peace of mind is worth it. Thank you.

That's something to remember for later, but this time it's Hawaii. Thank you.

Showroom Transport seems to be in the upper-middle price range. I reminded my daughter that you get what you pay for.

What is the link to the Enlisted Moms website? I googled it but came up with a variety of things. Thank you.

There are a couple closed groups on Facebook. This topic comes up a lot and I know several people that have used this service. One is an enlisted airman stationed at USAFA. The vehicle was shipped from South Carolina to Colorado.

I asked multiple people all of them have never had any problems just recommend ensuring that the shipping company is liable for any damage done during transport.
