Well first off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D :D :D :D

O, and once again CONGRATULATIONS!!

USMMA

Hi Flyersboy. Congrats on appointment to USMMA. My son did receive appointment to them, and will take if the others fall through. The USMMA is a great opportunity. You will have your retirement account set up after your civilian payback. How many 20-somethings can say the same? You aren't thinking about retirement now, probably. You will be set up well, if you use your noodle. Maybe you will meet my Phil there. Best of luck to you.

After USMMA you can go into ANY branch of the service as Active duty.. you dont have to do civilian work...a matter of fact Navy flight is real popular at USMMA, and I heard that they never fill all their billets...

IF my D gets in she wants to serve with the NOAA Corps... that is our other branch of uniformed service that most are not aware of.

I dont know, but wanted to say Congrats!!!

I've heard from my daughter Admissiions Guy that they do a lot of Running at KP (I heard there are really some Marines there, and they like to run). so my daughter actually quit the soccer season to run with Cross Country...

Congratulations on your appointment!

There will be a sample fitness plan in the big packet you'll receive at some point. But getting a head start is a great idea. First, run. Run regularly and run distance. Vary your runs to include some shorter, but higher intensity runs too. Work on push ups and sit ups, of course, but don't focus too tightly. Work on your overall core body strength. D found that her high school track team's circuit of 30 seconds on and 30 seconds off through 3 different types of sit ups, flutter kicks and different styles of push ups (repeat cycle 2 or 3 times) had her in good shape. Finally, be sure to warm up, cool down and stretch. There is a sit and reach component to the fitness assessment. So don't neglect flexibility.

Good luck!

The key is to have an overall good aerobic fitness base before reporting. No matter how much you do before you still won't be able to complete all the exercises that they want you to do during the PT sessions. The main thing to do is to prepare yourself for the physical readiness test, by doing that you will prepare yourself for most of the other exercises that are required.

As mentioned above the best way to do this is to run and work on core exercises. Run more than 1.5 miles, I would say be able to run comfortably for 3 miles or so, if not more. You don't necessarily have to be fast because most of the runs will be done in formation which tend to be slower than a normal pace. Work on push-ups and sit-ups. Do different variations of the two. If you are a member of a gym do a good circuit training program. Work more on endurance than muscle mass.

For the running mix in speed work with the longer distance runs. Find a track you can run on and do 400 meter to 800 meter repeats. For example: run 400(one lap) as fast as you can, slowly jog one lap, and repeat three or four times before stopping for a break. You can also do this with 800's (two laps). If you are going to do speed work, don't do a long run on the same day. Do one or the other. Also, you don't have to do an equal number of both, I would do more long runs than speedwork.

Hope this helps, don't forget to enjoy the rest of senior year and the summer as well though.
