A soldier here interested in what West Point has to offer. I recently completed my BCT as the distinguish honor graduate and now at my AIT in fort Sam Houston. I believe that I am physically fit; I scored a 286 on my pt test and my leadership is decent. What worries me is my academic background. In high school I scored a 26 on the ACT and don't know if that is sufficient enough for direct appointment. Is there any soldiers or cadets that can give me advice.

Soldiers have their own admissions officer - if you are Regular Army or Reserves, MAJ Liebhaber is your AO, or if you are NG, it's MAJ Wire. Part of their job is to determine if given your HS performance, test scores, and any college if you are competitive for direct or would need a year of prep at USMAPS.

Of course, a lot hinges on you getting your commander's endorsement. Keep up the good APFT (btw USMA scores a 300 as a A-) and work towards being an honor grad again - those will help your chances that your commander will endorse you, but it is no guarantee.

Start your application, and then reach out to your AO for specific guidance.

They use the extended scale, meaning they'll grade you past the maximum reps/minimum time for the pushups, situps, and mile. For example, if you do like 78 pushups, you'll get extra points for exceeding the maximum of 75. But I think you have to max out on everything in order to get these extra points.

You have to make at least 100 in each category to get into extended scale. IE: A 95/98/125 will be scored as 293, not 318.

Maxing all three on the extended scale (125/125/125) is called a super-max. And can result in some good things!

A regular Army passing is just a C- or D at USMA. A 300 is an A- or B+ one.
