DS is in great shape but could always be better. Besides preparing for PT test what can he expect the first week of AROTC? Thanks:thumb:

This will depend completely on the Battalion.

Some have an orientation a week before school starts, some have just a 2 or 3 hour presentation, and then there is everything in between.

Expect to have the APFT given, even then some battalions don't do it before school starts, again it depends.

The best thing your son can do is keep in contact with the battalion, I'm sure they will send something that explains their orientation process.

I can tell you what my son's orientation included. They had a presentation on the Wednesday before school started that lasted about 2+ hours. The MS4's talked about the program and activities for AROTC, lots of power points. Refreshments followed, that was it for that day. The next morning at 6:00am the new cadets that were contracting did their APFT, later that day they had a Contracting Ceremony, had a cake too. On Friday they issued uniforms and gear to all the cadets that contracted, they gave the other cadets their gear about a week later. That was it, he just showed up for PT on the first day of school and was off and running. A bunch of them did sit on the steps on Thursday and watch the NROTC and Marine Option Mids get yelled at.

Your son's Orientation could be very different, I'm sure they will fill him in. Does he know any of the cadets in the battalion that he can get information from.

Best of luck to your son. Just tell him to work out and run A LOT this summer to get ready for that first APFT.

I'm going to be a freshman this year so I don't know much, but when I called CU Boulder's battalian, they told me that the orientation consisted of a barbecue the day before school starts haha :shake:
Not sure if they will be doing a presentation or anything(I hope they will because I'm new to all of this)
but calling your cadre will give you all the information you will need!

Like the previous OP, I will also be an MS1 Fall '13 w/ PSU's Nittany Lion Bn. I've spoken with the PMS a little about this, and it appears to follow the same schedule as last fall, found here on page 3:

BUT, as JCleppe said, orientations vary from Bn to Bn -- this is just an example so you can get an idea.
