LDAC question

I'm mostly a lurker and have learned at lot from all of you. I do have questions now and then.
Because I'm a mom who likes to know things and has absolutely no idea of the answer......who books the flight(s) to LDAC? Do we parents book and pay or is our role to drop the candidate off at the airport and pick him up when he comes home? DS is no help with this; says he'll get an email from his AROTC person with details a few weeks ahead of departure. Do I just need to take a deep breath and relax? :smile:

Relax.

The ROTC office staff takes care of everything as far as airlines are concerned. You just need to get him to the airport. If your son goes on to CTLT afterwards and that requires an extra bag that isn't prepaid, you will need to pay for that and turn in the receipt at the ROTC office when he returns to campus.
 
The Army covers the cost. The cadet probably needs to arrange his own transportation to the airport unless the battalion has some sort of arrangement to shuttle them there. Having gone through a few Army moves, it's a good idea to have some funds ready in the event you do have to pay for something out of pocket. A common example is checked bags. The Army allows for two, but it's common for the airline to claim only one is payed for. In the event that happens you pay out of pocket at the airport and then the Arm reimburses you through what is called a travel voucher. Keep all receipts. That's so important I'll day it twice. Keep all your receipts! Even for a taxi to the airport (also reimbursable).

It's all paid for by the Army. I would recommend your cadet having $50-$100 for a haircut @ LDAC, snacks/meals at the airport to and from. The ticket and transportation to JBLM is all paid for and arranged by ROTC.

My DS will 'celebrate' his 21st birthday while attending WF. Any tips on sending packages?

Cell phones: They will have their cell phones for the first couple days, then they will be taking away for the duration of the training. Around day 27 they will get them back. So don't expect to hear your cadet's voice for a few weeks.

Letters: The cadets CAN and LOVE to receive letters from home. They should provide your with a mailing address the first couple days they are there. Remember to get it before they get their phones taken away!

Packages: The rules on this varies depending on the platoon and the leaders. Some are allowed to have them, others are confiscated. You will want to check with your cadet before sending anything just to be on the safe side."
