DQ Condition: Medical exam first?

Hey,

I was just wondering, I have a DQ condition for AFROTC which is PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome). Does anyone know how likely they are to waive this? I don't have any cysts or anything, it's strictly a hormonal imbalance for me. I have an appointment with the AFROTC at my university on August 1st. Will they send me to get the medical exam first or will I have to do the PFT and everything first before I go?

Not really that important, just curious to know. My AFROTC is a two-year program is that makes any difference. Not many people seem to know a lot about the two-year programs since they are rare.

Thanks for any info you have!

Very few if any on this board will venture a guess on the likehood of a waiver for your condition. The process will be for DoDMERB to send your medical file to the AFROTC medical review board for consideration. The board will make a determination of waived or not waived. AFROTC does not send you to a medical appointment, all of that is handled by DoDMERB. If waived you will be OK on this medical issue. If not you can accept outcome and move on to plan B or possibly appeal ( I do not know about the appeals process, if any). You will definatly want to be proactive on this and not wait until 08/01 to make a plan. As many on this board have posted waivers are becoming more difficult to get as the budget gets tighter and our forces are in reduction state.
1) I would confim AFROTC has your medical file and that you are being considered for a waiver.
2) Start gathering medical information and records on your condition and past treatment history.
3) Have a plan B in mind and ready to execute just in case.

Best of luck :thumb:

+1 to sheriff, this really should be under DoDMERB for waiver advice.

Clarification time because I have never heard anyone commissioning via AFROTC in 2 yrs. and without SFT. I am assuming because you have never had the exam, you have not gone to SFT, but instead you are going to a junior military college and will transfer to a 4 yr program later on.

I am also assuming you are not on scholarship because you would have had the exam. If that is the case, they might not send you for the exam until next yr when you are a 200 up for SFT selection.

Just because you are in AFROTC does not mean you will get an exam as a freshman.

Now with that being stated, the fact is you have to just go through the process. As sheriff said all you can do is get your medical paperwork in order.

Thanks for the advice Pima. I guess I should have put it in another forum! Still a little new at this :)

For clarification, the AFROTC program at my university is two years. They are rare from what I've heard from other posters and online. I'm about to be a junior in college at a 4-year university and have an appointment in August to go through the process to join AFROTC (so as of now I'm not in it at all). I was told the cadets go to SFT between junior and senior year and take extra classroom hours at SFT from what I've heard among other things. I haven't gotten clarification from the cadre yet on this.

I'll call them next week to let them know about the condition in case they need to do anything extra.

Thanks for the help!

It will be interesting to see how they do this program, mainly for one reason.

AFSC boards.

Especially rated because you also have to go through a flight physical which is a 3 day exam at Wright Pat. over your 300 summer, which is when you would be at SFT.

On top of that many, many AFSCs need a top secret security clearance which cadets also do over the 300 summer.

It really is a time crunch for you regarding boards. You will meet the SFT board in Feb. Which means come fall you will be taking the AFOQT. Getting your DoDMERB done, and maybe dealing with waivers or remedials. Than preparing for SFT. Coming back from SFT, meet AFSC board, do the TS clearance if needed, take exit DoDMERB exam, get base assignment. All of this is done instead of 2 yrs., but now basically 1 yr.

Thanks for the info Pima! If I successfully join this ROTC unit, I'll update with more info so posters can know more about it! Still working on getting my pushups to the level I need, and of course the medical issue at hand! Thanks again!

Make sure you do the correct form for push ups because the PT leaders will nail you if it is not proper. The problem that occurs with this is you are not only wasting time, but also energy if they don't count that push up.

PT scores are part of the SFT score, you need to attend SFT and it is not a guarantee that you will be selected. It is a national board that you compete on, and they decide by points.

A 2nd reason is you will have PT at SFT too. You will be ranked out of SFT. That SFT ranking will than become part of your AFSC OML score which again is a national board you will meet.
