Hey guys, my DODMERB eval is coming up in two weeks. About two days ago, I discovered that I was underweight by six pounds. I'm currently 6'2, 142 Ibs. What will happen in regard to this problem? I really don't want to be DQed because of a simple weight issue.

I am not an expert on the weight issue, but I'm pretty sure that your contact at the Citadel would be able to relieve your concerns. In any case, you should be able to gain six pounds prior to contracting. I suggest talking to a nutritionalist or another healthcare provider in order to make a healthy plan to gain the weight. Thanks for choosing to serve our country! Best wishes. :thumb:

I wouldn't worry about it. They will tape you if you are under the mins. Our DS was taped since day 1 for being too thin and it has never been an issue, except for when he was going to SFT. They told him if he lost more than 3 lbs at SFT he would be a medical turnback.

Glad someone posted this question. Our son has been medically qualified, but as a competitive swimmer and cc runner, he's always been thin (6'4 154). He has about 6% body fat. Obviously he's healthy and athletic, just tall and thin. This summer he's focusing on running and weight training more with less swimming. Hopefully he will gain some weight.

DS was always thin as well. 6'4" 175. Started lifting weights and drinking pre and post work out protein shakes and gained about 12 lbs in 3 months. Hope this helps.

I am a bit leery of these protein drinks... they often promise that one will bulk up, but how that happens is unclear to me. Then every once in a while, some one fails a drug test, owing, apparently, to previously undisclosed ingredients in protein shakes.
Peanut butter sandwiches in between meals is a pretty good and pretty safe option.

Talk to a professional

Like someone else said, talk to a dietitian or nutritionist. I wouldn't suggest taking direct advice from someone on a message board, even if it is just as simple as gaining a few pounds. If this is something you're concerned about, get some professional help. Good luck!

If I fail a drug test because I took GNC protein that I bought ON BASE (and they stick right next to the infantry barracks), then the military really needs to evaluate how they contract companies...

Drinking protein shakes is perfectly fine. The OP is pretty underweight and simple peanut butter isn't going to help, protein/mass gainer is an effective and cheaper way to bulk up when combined with exercise (strength conditioning and cardio).

I went from 135 to 177 in one summer and have progressed even more since then.
