Tuberculin Skin Test?

I just received an email from USAFA containing some more forms to be filled out. I was reading through the initial letter and it stated that it was mandatory to have had a tuberculin skin test within the past year. I had one in '96 and tested negative. I'm leaving in less than a week and am not sure how I can get this sorted out by the time I depart from my house.

Are there any suggestions? What would happen if I would show up without a recent PPD test? Thanks so much!

Call your doctor to place a PPD (TB test), it can be read in 48 hours. You have time.

got the same email today. i don't remember if my doctor said 24-48 or 48-72 hours after but i would get the tb test ASAP before you leave. i'm glad i got my other immunizations i needed last week because my arm was pretty sore for a day or so

Received mine today too. I thought I had completed all my paper work till this e-mail arrived. I have most of it completed except for a few items. I had mine (TB) done 2 weeks ago. Has to be read in 48 hrs.

I'm pretty sure that if you don't get it before I-day, they will just give it to you then. I got it done the other day just to get it done though...

Also, it said on the immunization form that the polio vaccine had to be recent. I couldn't get an appointment to get the polio vaccine again before the form was due (June 1st.) Should I still get it done before even though it won't be on the immunization form that I faxed in? Or will they just give it to me again on I-day anyway?

Get everything you can done BEFORE you show up on I-Day. You can always refax in your form with updates as well as carry your immunization documentation on you during I-Day so that you can prove you have all the required shots. Your goal, if possible, is to have no immunizations on I-Day. You have plenty of other fun activities that day . . .

Will it really be that much of a problem if I show up needing some shots? I get that smoother is better, but they are just vaccinations.

Knittle, no, when I was cadre on I-day most basics needed shots still, but you do not want your arm to be sore at all. You will have enough going on with the altitude, stress and long days that you will regret being sore from several shots when it could have been easily prevented. The TB test, I wouldn't worry about. It doesn't really hurt or make you sore (at least in my experience) but 5 shots in the shoulder? Ouch, you will regret that when you are trying to carry a bunch of stuff around.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their responses! I was able to get my skin test done. I went in today to get it checked and everything looks good! I've already faxed in the updated immunization record to USAFA.

See you guys in three weeks! :)
