Is it as competitive as combat arms to branch Military Police or is less hairpulling required if this is put as a cadet's number one choice to branch out of ROTC?

Also, what are the opportunities of a Military Police officer at the field grade level? Are there many command opportunities or would it be mostly staff (S2?) positions?

Thanks.

I can't answer how competitive MP is to branch.

Here is a list of MP units in the US Army (Wikipedia for what its worth).

A battalion is commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) and a brigade is commanded by a Colonel (COL).

I am unsure if there are MP companies commanded by Majors, but there appears to be a number of command opportunities for MP Officers at the LTC and COL levels.

Short Answer: It is getting a lot more competitive probably sitting in the top 5-7 of the branches.

Can't tell you about field grade but my MP LT friends brief A LOT as many are assistant S-3s. There are different niches like internment. convoy security ops etc within the branch.

HaHa....I think that character would be a bit more believable if he had been an ex 1st Sgt instead of a Major.

I think he would have been more believable had he been 6'4" as is the character in the novels.
