AROTC/NROTC Scholarship Chances

Hello everyone, I'm sorry to do this because I'm sure you've seen numerous, but I was curious as to how competitive I actually am.

I have a 3.64 weighted GPA, hopefully going up to 3.69 by the end of next week. I go to a very competitive school (1st in county, 7th in state, 76th in country for public schools) that has a school much like a traditional college. I scored a 30 on my ACT (30E, 27M, 34R, 30SR) and am retaking it tomorrow and think with the super score i can bring it up to a 31 overall. I am a rising senior. I played JV baseball freshman and sophomore year with a few games on Varsity. I was not officially named a captain (our team didn't name any that year), but I still took a leadership role on the JV team being 1 of 3 sophomores on a mostly freshman team (school isn't athletically oriented). I started a club that year for the team to raise money. Unfortunately, I had to stop playing in my junior and pursued employment and now work at Starbucks. I've worked part time all four years of high school. I have been part of a community service club since sophomore year and am taking a leadership role (president) next year. Am I competitive?

Understand that with AROTC, the largest number of scholarships go to in-state Publics. The other issue is that you need to be very competitive with the other students applying for the scholarship to that school. AROTC scholarship recipients tend to be significantly above average for the schools they are admitted to.

I have not completely narrowed it down to all 7, but I here's what I am thinking: American University, George Washington University, Northeastern University, San Diego State University, University of Washington, UCLA (I have somebody pulling for me there), and some 7th to be determined. I would be studying something along the lines of Political Sciences, International Affairs, etc. with Pre-Law (I want to be a JAG).

Some of these schools are going to be a reach, University of Washington will be one of them. You might want to add a couple safety schools.

+1 to Jcleppe, as usual. DOn't know where you live but I'd have one or more in-state schools on your list. NROTC will require it and it could increase your chances of an AROTC scholarship.

You have a shot at NROTC depending on what your selected major will be. 85% of scholarships go to STEM for Navy Option. Marine Option doesn't care what your major is.

Nrotc/arotc

If you stick with the Poli-Sci major I think the tier III NROTC scholarship may be a reach for you. Not sure what the ACT conversion is, but you need to be pretty close or over 1400 on M/V SAT for that, and I think your GPA might be a lilttle low as well. If you can raise your ACT math, and ACT overall and will consider a tier I or II major for NROTC you may be more competitive. Also consider that if you live in the northeast, GWU is super competitive. With your stats, you may have better chance if you're from the midwest or west coast. DS is a contracted cadet AROTC and an Iter/Rel. major at American, PM me if you have any questions.
P.S. pretty sure most JAG's enter with J.D. degree already. Graduate studies follow ROTC as far as I know are VERY competitive and rare.

Are any of the publics considered in-state for you? For example, UCLA is considered high-cost for OOS as the tuition rivals the higher private schools. The Army is trying to keep its costs down and the bulk of 4-year scholarships are awarded as in-state Publics or lower cost private (<~$32K per year).

The American/GWU battalion is HIGHLY competitive from the history of posters on this board for their limited number of scholarships.

As with others, I recommend that 7th school be an in-state public where you will do well and get top grades. The Army really doesn't care which school you get your degree from so much as how well you do at that school (i.e. high GPA). This will put you in a more competitive position to pursue your branch of choice once you graduate.
