I have heard good teports about the new Doolies

I heard some were not in shape. One girl took 18 minutes for the AFT. She will have a hard time.

I have heard fom a couple of the cadre. I am sure they aren't all doing well.

Watched the swearing in and didn't notice anyone fainting or needing the medics. Not too shabby:)

Running the AFT in 19+ min is actually not uncommon the first time, usually it's kids who didn't run a lot and are from sea level, or kids who spent half the time throwing up... :) They will get there by the end of basic.

For those not as knowledgeable,

what is AFT so we might have perspective on the exercises and expectations?
Push-up, sit-ups, running, etc? Thx

I have been hearing good things about the new class.

After 3 days...That's like saying that your team is winning 10 minutes into the first quarter of a football game. I would let this sit for a while.

JMHO

My basics are progressing according to schedule. It is impossible to say "this class is better" or "this class is worse" at this stage. Every class has their own strengths and weaknesses.

No one I saying they are better or worse. All I said is that the cadre I know said good things. I would hope that you would want that to be the case.

As a parent who just dropped off my DD on Thursday I appreciate the positive words. I didn't take it to mean that this class is better or worse than others. It seemed a simple comment that certainly didn't need to be attacked and at least made this parent smile:)

Thank you. You will find attacks can occur here. My son is one of the Squadron Commanders for the incoming year. I know a lot of his friends, and the people he has spoken with have said positive things. My son is a very positive person and he would like nothing better than to have a great Doolie class.

@ Tigger, Congratulations, you have done a great job raising a child. She is a reflection of your parenting. Good luck to her.

Interesting what you say about your son wanting the Doolies to be successful:) I told my DD that although they would be tough on her that they ultimately wanted her (and all the basic cadets) to succeed and to trust in the process. It was just a few years ago that the cadets in charge of them faced this very challenge!

While I was there last week I was so impressed with the cadets and also the parents as well:) I met people that I know we will stay in touch with and I appreciate your kind words as well! It's nice to not be on this rollercoaster alone:)

We've been hanging out with friends this week in COS who are serving as cadre for 4 different squadrons this year. They have had good things to say about ALL of the Basics they are working with. They DO want the Basics to succeed. They said the first AFT is ALWAYS rough since it is a baseline, since it is given on Day One, and since most of the kids are not adjusted to the altitude yet. (Probably not a fair judge of fitness) Apparently, there is an emphasis on positive training, rather than constant negative "beatings".
(I'm sure that this will be a point of discussion for some.)
These cadre feel like the Basics are doing fine at this point and will continue to progress in a satisfactory manner. They had nothing negative to say about the kids they are working with.
I put a lot of stock in the judgement of the cadre I've been talking to.

While "attacks" can occur here I wouldn't characterize any of the remarks I've read on THIS thread as an attack on anyone. Certainly sharing of opposing/different opinions can be done without labeling such as an "attack".

Good Luck to your daughter Tigger!:thumb:

Thanks:)

I guess we will just have to disagree about some of the comments on this thread though!

I think we agree on this. My admonition is about not making judgments too soon, because this can set unfair expectations. Things can quickly change at this point - no one can tell, and there are few more corrosive emotions than disappointment.

My son is also cadre, he has it in his mind to train the basic cadets as best he can and to help them be as successful as his skill and their desire would allow. So lets hope the best for the Basic Cadets and their cadre and let the basics settle into BCT without setting undo expectations.

All the OP wrote was "I have been hearing good things about the new class." Just that one simple statement. How that got turned into making judgments and setting expectations just makes my brain hurt:confused:

I completely agree with that sentiment!

Headache.

It happens here. Whether it be a parent (or anyone else for that matter) who starts the ball rolling on anything, here on this forum (and I am not criticizing anyone/thing) one saying can give many people talking points. This conversation in fact gave me a slight headache with how fast it switched but we still are managing to manta in our civility and that is what counts. I am too glad that this class is doing well in their first 3 days.
