Medically and administratively qualified

Hello All, I had a quick question. DS received a 4yr AROTC scholarship back in Feb 2013. I recall his offer stating he was administratively qualified and needed to get medically qualified,(eventually did) . My question is this. Now that he has cleared both hurdles will he get another letter from CC stating he is fully qualified or some other confirmation? Thanks for your input

As long as he sent in his acceptance for the scholarship and the Battalion then he is good to go.

Your son will most likely get a packet of paperwork and information this summer from his battalion. One of the many forms will be a 104R, if your not familiar with the form it is the one that lays out his 4 years in school by semester or quarter, whichever the school uses. Your son will want to get in touch with his advisor to make the 4 year plan, tell him not to worry to much about having the exact classes, ROTC just wants to see a plan to make sure they can finish in the required timeframe. Both my son's 104R changed many times, as long as he is not switching majors it won't be an issue.

The reason he should get a jump on the 104R is that it needs to be completed before the scholarship will kick in. Your son will not receive any stipend until the 104R is complete and signed off by his advisor, of course he will need to pass the APFT as well.

For now he should be set, just watch for the paperwork in the mail or email, if he does not receive anything by the start of August you might want to give a call.

Thank you for your reply. DS had orientation last month and in his schedule he was signed up for MS classes. We will wait and post when notified. Thanks again.

The earlier you get thie 104R filled out the better - which especially becomes handy if you are doing hard tech majors (ie: engineering). Depending on the major your DS is doing and how many credits are required to graduate, Cadet Command many authorize him additional semesters beyond the traditional 8.

The Battalion is the one that owns you now, so they are the ones who are going to verify that you are fully qualified. Remember that also means passing a PT test. Each Battalion tackles it a little differently. I would also check on the 104r issue with your Battalion Jcleppe and Thompson obviously are associated with Battalions that put a lot of weight on the 104r. I don't get too concerned about the 104r since it is a working document that should change often if you are a normal college student. I'll contract you without having a solid 104r.
Bottom line...this is a question for your Battalion.

As usual sound advice from all. We will wait to hear from the unit and continue having contests between DS and I for number of PU,SU and 2mile runs. Who am I kidding...no contest I get smoked every time.

AROTC information

I have been stalking different website of schools that have AROTC units for information. Of all of them I have seen so far this one is the best in terms of pure information. Well done!!! So for all us us seeking AROTC info please see this site. http://www.marist.edu/studentlife/rotc/

Please be aware that there are some schools that require an up-to-date, flawless 104-R to even be eligible to contract. The Citadel is one of these schools and I promise it's a big deal. Especially when you receive a 4 year scholarship and it has to be done before school starts.

Update: DS received large envelope from AROTC unit yesterday. Looks like he needs to get a statement of health from doctor, confirm where his dental records are stored, copy of birth certificate, SSN.
