I dream of getting an appointment into USMA, but it all shut down when I got a denial for the class entering 2018. This is because of my SAT scores  I need some advice and support from anyone to encourage me to not quit, its like the more I try to raise my scores the more something inside me tells me to quit. But I can't, knowing myself, I know I will say "what if I did get into USMA" later on in life.

Much appreciated guys

(for the record im 20 years old)

What are your scores?

....atrocious
470 math
550 verbal
don't remember CR

What sucks is how I have all the other qualities that will qualify me into USMA (leadership, athletics--not recruited, Academic Honors, voulenteer work) test scores are holding me up

If you need someone to convince you not to quit, USMA probably isn't the right place for you.

If you are serious about getting in, sign up for an SAT prep course, sign up for the free SAT question of the day, buy a practice guide. Put the time and effort into improving your scores

...and take them as often as you can.

I don't know what your financial situation is, but the SAT scores almost always get better each and every time you take it. The practice tests help you skip through or quickly scan instructions, taking it often helps you with the anxiety that slows your thought processes.
You don’t say where you going to college, but look into self prep, NMMI is not that expensive and has some prett good acceptance statistics.

I agree with Crazyhorse about taking the ACT. Many people test exponentially higher on one over the other.

Qualifying vs winning an appointment is not the same. I believe about 1000 plus candidates were QNS.

If you don't mind what was your class rank? I as a FFR I don't pay too much attention to "Academic Honors" as most of them are make feel good designation.

Make a schedule to take at least 4 practice tests before the next test. You can split up the sections but make sure you time it. After each section you take, review all the answers right and wrong. This will help you to begin understanding the reasoning of the test and improve your performance. I increased my overall SAT by 200+ by doing this and more.

You will become so familiar with the recycled question types that it will become easier. And honestly, the SAT and ACT test your ability to take each test, not your intelligence. So the more you know the test's format, question type, and so on, the easier it will get.

Additionally, try the ACT. Some people excel on it who did not excel on the SAT.

I enjoyed meeting you at the Send-Off Luncheon.
Best wishes as you start your 47 month journey at West Point. :thumb:

buff81 what is your take?

You've received some great advise above.

I would suggest that you take the ACT. Prep for it and take it at least twice.
WP will evaluate you academically on the standardized test that you perform best on, so there is no penalty to taking both the SAT and ACT.
Some do better on one than the other. You may be one that does better on the ACT, but you will never know unless you try.

If you have never prepped for the SAT, then also take it again - after you do some prep.

A good free on-line prep is www.march2success.com sponsored by the Army.
If you are a Boy Scout - you can get a free ACT/SAT test prep program. Go to: http://www.eknowledge.com/affiliate_welcome.asp?coupon=2B59457B6F9

It's easy to get discouraged, but don't give up if WP is your dream.
Improving your test scores is one of the best ways to improve your chances.
Also, take Plebe-like classes in college and make A's and B's in them.

Good luck. :thumb:

Plan B is what?
In my view, even with all the prep classes being suggested, unless there was some specific reason you feel your first scores are much lower than expected, (like you were sick that day) getting another 150 to 200 points+/- will be unusual. Remarkable, even. And I believe you will need near 700s to get a hard look at any of the SAs.
I want you to try, but be clear-eyed.
