I am a parent of a 2017 DS who is currently in INDOC. I'm coming here from the Parents FB page hoping to get clarification as to how we should address our DD's and DS's. Now that they are in INDOC, are they PLEBE CANDIDATE or CANDIDATE?

Originally this seemed like a very clear answer. The 2017 Reporting In document states that mail should be addressed to PLEBE CANDIDATE [students full name], 2017. Capt. Kennedy, in a power point presentation the first day referred to them as PLEBE CANDIDATES. The USMMA website refers to them as PLEBE CANDIDATES. The USMMA press releases refer to the 238 PLEBE CANDIDATES that reported on July 3rd.

The confusion arose on the Parents FB page when it was brought up that our DD's and DS's may not be receiving mail if it is addressed to them as PLEBE CANDIDATE. Some of the parents are saying they are not PLEBE CANDIDATES yet, they are CANDIDATES during INDOC and they are not a PLEBE CANDIDATE until AFTER Indoc is over.

Candidates- Throughout Indoc
Plebe Candidates - 1st day out of Indoc to Parent's Weekend
Plebes - Parent's Weekend to Recognition

Grassfield Sailor has it correct - of course.

That said, I do NOT think parents should worry if they sent mail to their 2017 Candidates currently in Indoc that if they addressed them to "Plebe Candidate ..." vice "Candidate ...." that it won't be delivered - in other words I'm saying I believe addressed either way the mail will get to your DS or DD - at least it has in the past if addressed to "Plebe Candidate ..."

Jasper is right (as usual)

Candidate (though mail goes to Plebe Candidate)

After indoc:
Plebe Candidate

After Parents Weekend and acceptance into the regiment:
Plebe

After recognition- M/N 4th Class

But during Recognition aren't they animals, that make funny noises:yllol:? OOps, cat, I mean cow/chicken/duck, out of the bag!

Somewhat sarcastically, nope, not even that. This is a family friendly forum or I'd go on as to the "definition" of the caste system and where "Plebes and/or Plebe Candidates fit in the universe of beings and organic materials ... and remember as noted until after INDOC, they aren't even Plebe Candidates... at least offcially.

I mean remember we're talking about people, right this minute, who don't currently have the right, without express permission, to buy a can of soda, even during their their free time...

Seriously, it's even hard, unless you are a DI, to remember how few privaleges you had as a Plebe once you are a second classman, let alone an old, going senile alumnus.....

Man, isn't that the truth. Just yesterday, four of us from our office had lunch with a member of the class of 78. He and I were the only KPers and the only ones with any maritime experience. Like it always does, the talk wended its way to the KP experience. The 78 Alum and I started discussing KP today and the fact that the barracks have AC came up. The others were amazed that we didn't even have "fan privileges" during the summer months. . . .

How often we take the little things for granted. . .
