I am an AFROTC scholarship recipient, and will be a freshman in the fall.
I have never read anything about reserve service in all of my research in regards to Air Force ROTC, but rather that one incurs a minimum of 4 years Active-Duty obligation upon commissioning. However, in recent emails with a member of the cadre at the school I'll be attending, they stated that I will incur a 4 year AD obligation, and an additional 4 year Reserve service obligation.
It surprises me that I have not read anything about this additional Reserve service. Is this accurate?
Also - they mentioned that I will have to "enlist" in the Obligated Reserve Service at my contracting appointment. What exactly is this?

I thought I had properly done my research but apparently that is not the case.

The total comitment is 8 years. 4 years AD and 4 more Inactive Ready Reserves, which essentially means that you could be called back. There is no drilling required.

When you join AFROTC (Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps) you "enlist" in the AF Reserves.

Ok, thanks for the response. When you say no drilling, you mean that there is not requirement for the 1 weekend/month, 2 weeks/year training?

Yes, it means no drilling, in essence for those yrs they have the right to recall you back into ADAF. You will be Inactive Reserve

When Bullet retired in 08 after 20 yrs. ADAF he was told they could recall him for 5 yrs. He never spent one day drilling since he retired 08-08-08.

The same will be true for you upon commissioning and serving 4 yrs ADAF.

I would be more concerned about getting SFT. That scholarship is truly only 2 yrs. No SFT can mean dis-enrollment.

Pima'a advice is sound as always!

The 4 years IRR is a non-factor unless things really go to he!!.

Packer is right...things have to go upside down for them to pull you out of IRR into ADAF or even Guard.

Oh, Pima! You're ruining my dream that one day the Bat Phone will ring at my desk at work and they'll say "Bullet, we need you back in the jet TOMORROW!" I mean, they only have a couple of weeks left to do so.

Come On, Red Dawn Invasion! (Just kidding, folks)

Bullet,

That bat phone rang a few months after retiring...remember they (ADAF) asked via a mass email that you, and every WSO to come back and you said NO THANKS!

For the OP, I will let Bullet tell the back story. However, in the end he had the choice to say NO THANKS.

The only reason you want it to return now is because it gives you a chance to fly with our DS! Not sure you would be able to handle taking orders from him as the pilot/AC commander :shake: when he is your DS! :yllol:
