I'm soon to be an AFROTC cadet as an AS250. Im a soon to be sophomore in college and about to have to get my DODMERB done. 1 year ago, I went to my doctor because I was having trouble deciding my career field and I was put on anti-anxiety and anti-depressants for ONE month, then taken off of it from my doctor. A couple of months later, I was struggling in College, so my doctor put me on Adderall, and I was only on Adderall for ONE month and also taken off because me and my doctor didn't think I needed it. So do I have to apply for a waiver? I was never "diagnosed" with ADD or any anxiety disorder. My grades have always been good and I graduated high school in the top 25% of my class and made a 4.0 in college OFF the medication last semester. Any help please?

I find it hard to believe you were given anti-anxiety AND anti-depressants without a mental health diagnosis. I know you're telling me one thing, but your medical records may say another. You may have a diagnosis and not realize it. I would request your medical records for verification.

I agree with Mabry. I don't think I have ever seen a doc prescribe even over the counter meds without placing in our records that was the medical decision regarding treatment.

I would think a prescription would def. be placed into your records.

Additionally, the way the system works is you don't apply for a waiver. DoDMERB Qs or DQs, branches request the waiver.

I would say it'd be too risky to not disclose something like that to DODMERB. Provide a lengthy explination, include medical records, and get a note from the doctor(s) prescribing it to you that you're fine now. They're usually strict on mental conditions but I feel like if you play your cards right you could get this waivered.

Agree with this 100%. Especially with the Adderall prescription as it is a Schedule II drug and I find it hard to believe it is being prescribed without a diagnosis of ADD.

Anti-anxiety + Anti-depressants + ADD meds usually =/= a waiver (especially 3 waivers).

@ OP: Who discontinued the meds? Are you stating you visited your PCP 3 times to discontinue EACH of the meds or did you just stop taking them on your own? I'm not grilling you, but if I have these questions, the medical board will be asking the same questions and more.

Concur.

I don't see many/any providers prescribing "speed" without an ADD diagnosis in the medical records.

OP, here is a thread you might want to research.

LEARNING, PSYCHIATRIC, AND BEHAVIORAL

a. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) (314) UNLESS the following criteria are met:

(1) The applicant has not required an Individualized Education Program or work accommodations since the age of 14.

(2) There is no history of comorbid mental disorders.

(3)]The applicant has never taken more than a single daily dosage of medication or has not been prescribed medication for this condition for more than 24 cumulative months after the age of 14.

I am not trying to be harsh, but currently as I read it, posters have it right; get your paperwork in order.

It is not all bad news. Waivers are case by case. 1 month with no re-fill is different than 6 months with 4 re-fills.

You have something going for you.
(4) During periods off of medication after the age of 14, the applicant has been able to maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average without accommodations.

(5) Documentation from the applicant’s prescribing provider that continued medication is not required for acceptable occupational or work performance.

It appears you have you meet the last 2 points.

It is a cliche, but the best anyone can say is go through the process. None of us are DoDMERB, and if we were, we could not respond due to confidentiality.

Get your paperwork in order. Hope for the best, and expect the worst.

It would be wrong for any poster to give a definitive answer more than submit your paperwork.....JMPO and 0.19764 cents

Adderall scripts (and other Schedule II drugs) can only be given month to month, in other words no refills on that script.

Definitely get your records so you understand what has been documented.
