I was wondering from any candidate class of 2018 that has received their "second step kits" what does it consist of? Thanks!

So called second step kit is getting access to more functionalities in your application portal. It used to be mailed out so that's why it's called "second step kit."

If you are a competitive candidate, you should have been given access to "second step kit" portion of the application.

What exactly does it include (what "more functionalities" are you referring to in the portal)? I'm almost through with my app, but don't recall one of these?

"More functionalities" just means you have the option to submit the names and emails of your teacher evaluators, the ability to complete your candidate statements, etc.

Those options are not available initially. Only after you have attended SLE or your file has been reviewed and deemed competitive will West Point allow you to continue in the process by opening the portal for further submissions.

Thank you for clarifying that

My portal "expanded" or "opened" on or about July 7. However, I received no notification of that. I just checked one day and saw I could continue.

About 1 August, I received a big envelope (not that big envelope) with a letter stating that my portal was open and that I could continue the application. Inside were some pre-addressed envelopes for transcripts to be sent to USMA. Is that the "kit" you are talking about?

I completely forgot about that... I received that as well. I bet that is what he is referring to.

I'm new at all this, but I'm guessing the "kit" verbiage is a holdover from the days of snail mail applications.

Now, it's all electronic, so there's no real "kit" of materials mailed out to the candidate...unless someone knows something I don't.

I am a she, and I have received everything that you guys are talking about. My portal is open and I got the envelopes in the mail. I just thought someone else said that their was something else after that. What about the medical?

If it's like USNA, they will order the medical once you have completed a certain portion of the application. You WILL receive the medical notification in snail mail.
