DoDMERB Letter Before App Mostly Done?

I got my letter detailing how to schedule my appointment in the last couple days, but I am confused as to why I have it already (I'm not complaining, just wondering if this has happened to anybody else and why it might be). For USMA, I have yet to do all 3 teacher recs and essays, and their medical section says they don't consider you until you finish the app. Navy I've sent SATs and my transcript, and done the personal info form; AF I've just sent my SATs and done the personal info form (I sent them my transcript before I was a candidate, but it never registered in their system). I have not yet started any ROTC applications either. Did anybody else experience a similar scenario?

Each Academy has their own requirements for what triggers the request to schedule a candidate's DoDMERB exam.
Based on what you said you've completed for USMA, I doubt USMA requested it, so it was either USNA or USAFA.

DS has a letter from DoMERB sitting on the table, waiting for him to get home to open it. I am assuming it is the info on scheduling. He also has not submitted his essays, CFA or teacher recs to USMA, and has his app mostly complete for the AROTC 4 yr. scholarship.

Has USMA classified him as candidate? Or is he still applicant?

I am betting the letter is make an apptmt., and it is because USMA has told them to go ahead.

Please don't read anything into this. It means squat for USMA or AROTC regarding apptmt or scholarship, it is just filling squares, and he filled them.

DS is working on his "Second Step Kit" for USMA, at about the same point in it as the OP. I will be happy for him to get this done early on, as he may need remedials for 2 mild concussions (2 years ago) and 1 sprained ankle (3 years ago). As far as I can tell from reading on here, neither should DQ him.

This happend to DS last year. Applied to SA and was deemed competitive enough for them to have him start the DoDMERB process. He opted to pursue AROTC instead of SA. The great thing about this happening is it allows you more time to address any medical issues that may pop up. Ideally you will be deemed quailifed prior to any of the boards even convening and that is a very good thing for stressed parents and canidates. Best of luck.:thumb:

DoDMBERB results from another commissioning source doesn't automatically transferred to USMA. My understanding is that there is cost sharing if West Point requests DoDMERB results from request made by another commissioning source. So if you are not competitive or complete your application, USMA won't request your DoDMERB result.

Nor will they request it to be scheduled (if you are only applying to USMA or have not been scheduled by another SA), if you are not competitive or have a significant % of your application complete.

Which is why I find this post curious if USMA is the only SA they are applying to :

From my understanding, USMA will only schedule DoDMERB for a candidate if they are competitive and have a significant amount of their application complete.
No essay or teacher recs submitted is not having a significant amount of the application complete - which makes me think that another SA scheduled the candidate for DoDMERB and USMA will then request the results, if the candidate is competitive and has a significant part of their application completed.

The only other commision source DS is applying to is AROTC. So perhaps it came from there - but I thought they don't request DodMERB until they have actually been awarded the scholarship. We will just go with the flow! Appointments are scheduled, have the Dr working on extracting from DS file all of the dates and treatments for sinusitis, acne, sprained ankle, etc, etc, etc.....so we can finish the on-line DodMERB form!

DS completed his physical and eye appointments today. Both said he "passed, everything was fine". However, I am assuming that that does not include looking at his history - that DodMERB does that part, to determine whether or not they need remedials, or are DQ'ed for something in the history. Is that correct?
Also, he set up his account on the actual DodMERB site (as opposed to DodMETS), and it was USMA(not AROTC) that requested the exams.

Soccmomer, you are correct. DoDMERB will look at history to determine if your DS has anything that would DQ. 1 of 3 things will happen..qualified,remedial,DQ "for history of....." . If he has any medical history that may be of concern now is the time to start gathering medical records. Also have DS and coaches be prepared to draft letters attesting that said previous condition has not interferred with his ability to do this ( insert activity here). Best of luck.:thumb:

Mostly concerned with the mild concussions that were 26 and 22 months ago. We have already gathered some of the records, but the 1 ER report is not legible, so I will need to get that again.

My son was also notified early for DODMERB before he had completed the "required" amount of his applications. We have since completed the eye exam and medical is scheduled a week from Monday. I am grateful for the early request as I'm sure he'll have to provide additional information (bi-lateral inguinal hernia surgery when he was 14) but maybe they just changed the policy and are giving people more time.

I'd love to believe it's because they think he might be a good candidate but I'm a bit too realistic.

About how long does it take to recieve the packet

I was emailed that my counselor had submitted my forms for USNA so I looked to see if USNA had sent my app to DODMERB, and they had. I then created my profile. About how long does it take for me to receive the packet in the mail? P.S this was done on Saturday 9/9/13.
