ALL,

I am excited to attend the Oath Ceremony and see my DS charge the field... Reading through the various forums.. cannot find a list of suggested things to bring... I will be driving up from Richmond..
I"m considering brining a pop up, chairs, cooler full of drinks... I purchased "picnic lunch tickets" but I wan to make sure I have enough to "share" with my DS's BRs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You don't have to bring much-The picnic itself is just a picnic in between the oath ceremony at the battlefield and their march thru the Town of New Market. But you will be alowed to take them out that night afterwards for dinner and can make a short pitstop at Walmart for various stuff which he will be looking for. I think I would not bring too much with and just wait for the Walmart run as each of them are different and they will have their newly found "gotta have's"- 5 years ago my son and his room mates came back with stuff that they could keep in their food box in their locker- beef jerky, gatorade powder, protein drink etc...- (the Lexington Wally world might be the best/nicest one in the entire system - it is certainly the stop of choice for Rats and Parents). Plan on taking a bunch of extra Rats out to dinner above and beyond your own as lots of kids parents won't be able to make it- then just let them talk amongst each other- they will have a lot to say!

This Oath ceremony is a nice "new tradition"- I wish they had something like it when I was a rat. They will look surprisingly good marching thru town, and the oath and charge up the hill is a nice link to the past. You will enjoy it and you will be amazed at what a change has occured in just a couple of weeks. We want to see pictures posted on here afterwards!!

We also got box lunches from the parent council. They said there was a chicken place in New Market that alot of people order from.

I too am looking forward to the ceramony. The one thing we are bringing is some music, I hope he doesn't get into trouble if we happen to be playing some his his favorites while we eat...
