My first post. My daughter just started her junior year. Her math track has been:

Year 09 Honors Algebra
Year 10 Honors Geometry
Year 11 Honors Algebra II

In year 12 she is on track to take pre calc. This past summer we attempted to get her into algebra II so that she could take pre calc junior year and then calc her senior year, but could not get the schedule to work.

Is this math track going to hurt her application? Is there a strong distinction between pre calc and calc on the admission review? On a scale of 1-10, how important will it be for her to take pre calc over summer before senior year and take calc senior year?

Edit to add: Does she have to have a computer class on her transcript?

It may hurt it, to some extent. Seeing calculus on there, senior year, is a help.

I did CGA, not USNA, but if USNA is like CGA, you want to be fairly comfortable with calc going in (as comfortable as calc can make you feel, that is).

Others dy/dx may vary!

Sorry. What does dy/dx mean? I did a search of acronyms and could not find it.

Hate to be that guy, but it's a reference to derivatives, a fundamental of calculus. It's a math joke referencing the math subject of this thread. Nothing to do with acronyms. Not meaning to be a smartass, just trying to let you know lol.

On the egomaniac side, this proves that IR majors can do math to! :D

Ha! Now that is hilarious... I have forgotten everything I ever learned about calculus. About the only thing I remember is that I had a TA teaching most days of the class and I could not understand a single word of his version of English. My college buddies and I still joke about that. It took me a few weeks before I figured out what he meant when he said "scare ooot."
