Who determines if your 3 q'd.What are the indicators. If DODMERB said I am qualified- is that one?If I am an official candidate-is that another? Thanks for your help!

3Q= Scholastically (your Whole Person Score) + Physically (CFA) + Medicallly (DODMERB).

At least that is my understanding.

Official Candidate does not mean you are scholastically qualified. DODMERB qualification is one of the 3.

^^^ Correct. Being an 'official candidate' is how you START the process. USNA admissions determines if you are 3Q (Scholastic/DODMERB/CFA) based on the application information you provide.

so how does my DD find out if she is triple Q's.

You will know if she is medically qualified by checking the DODMERB website. her BGO can tell her if she passed the CFA; also, if she isn't notified she needs to retake it by CGO, she can assume she passed.

She will need to contact her RD to determine if she's scholastically qualified. That determination may not be made immediately.

Toms,

You will get "official" notification from the USNA, read more about the LOA process, but 3Q'd does not automatically mean LOA, just means you are in the bucket to get there, and the Navy will keep you informed both on the computer system and by USPS. So much depends upon factors that are out of your child's control. I firmly believe my DS got in due to his MOC interview (go figure).

This is a process, worse than the IRS+VA+Mortgage Loan in my opinion. I can see where many might get discouraged, my DS did (several times) and we thought he was giving up many a night - staring at the computer screen, wondering "what the heck" was going on the other side. At the same time, the mailbox is like a path to the lottery - excitement builds during the fall/spring.

USNA admissions counselors are wonderful folks. They talk with you, are encouraging and will write and call you back < 24hrs. Much better than the other schools that he applied to.

I wish you luck!

You don't always receive official notification (e.g., a letter or email) from USNA saying that you are 3 Q'ed. Some years such notification has been sent, but not in the last couple of years. USNA does not allow your BGO to give you your scholastic status; however, your RD can do so. Your BGO can tell you your CFA status and DODMERB will have your medical status.

I will only speak in my DS's case, so for what its worth:

We received multiple letters from the Dean of Admissions, Dr. S.B. Latta regarding what was required and outstanding in my son's case, I recall reading three of these over six months. As well, the computer system and very kind Admissions team kept him/us up-to-date.

From what I have read, the 3Q is not "officially" used at the USNA, but it seems, for lack of a better term, adopted by folks like us who are awaiting a chance for appointment.

Officially, I would use #10 found at the bottom of this page:

http://www.usna.edu/Admissions/steps.htm

While our BGO was somewhat helpful, she did not give us any indicators regarding the admissions status, they are limited once the ball is rolling. Grevar above has a pretty good formula, but I wouldn't over simplify the "Whole Person Score" by any means. There's a lot to that category.

DODMERB was a huge hurdle for our DS. These letters do not come from the USNA. The CFA status is noted on the computer system after a few days after submission.

PM me if you want more specifics, although, it seems varied paths lead to the gates onto the yard. Best of luck!

My DD is a Plebe this year. She found out she was medically qualified in September, received a congressional nom in December, and was notified of her appointment to class of 2017 Feb. 19th. She never received any official info. about being triple Q'd or any other information along the way of where she was in the process. We just went step by step and prayed a lot! It is such a long an stressful process..hang in there!

My DS sent a note to his RD asking if he could tell him if he was scholasticly qualified. RD wrote back that all board decisions are confidential and they cannot release any info. I guess you either find out throught LOA or by April with an appointment.

Like NAVYGIRLHOPEFUL, last year my DS never received notice that he was 3Q'ed until he received a QNS letter late in May. It is stressful, and Navy (both USNA and ROTC) especially seem like black holes where everything goes in, but nothing comes back out until an Up/Down is heard.
