Jr. Year
KenSe12,
For you the application will come around April of your Jr. year...
While you wait there ia alot you can do to ready yourself. I will only post a few items, others will add and give other advise.
http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/ -- Start reading!!
1. GRADES...Keep them up!
2. SAT / ACT... Prep, prep, prep, prep and take both!!!
3. Leadership...Community, School & Sports!
4. Watch the forum for the NROTC offers that will roll out between now and April, many will post their stats.
a. Take a look at the NROTC college list and get some ideas what it
takes to get into some of the colleges. You will find that the NROTC
scholarship is not what gets you into a college.
5. Sports...Get into one if you havent already!
6. Class standing...Top 20% is good, top 10% very good.
7. Start and end each school year on a high note. Engage your teachers and engage in the classroom.
8. Take the tough right over the easy wrong. In other words stay out of trouble. As a HS coach I see it all the time, kids just want to be accepted by others. Being cool and fitting in is difficult at the HS level. March to your own drum beat and don't allow yourself to be pulled into a tough spot.
9. Call the Navy / Marine recruiting office and ask for a mentor, I'm confident they will work with you. Better yet stop by and tell them you want to talk to both of them. Great guidance!!
10. Use this forum to research and ask questions.
Good luck, your journey has started.
