I am suprized at the amount of information the posts have here.
We have submited all information as early as possible, completed MC PFT and captains interviews, yet we have heard nothing since October.

Will we recieve notice if my son is not accepted?
Is it bad form to ask the captain about the status of the application?

My son has been accepted at his 1st choice school, but we are holding back on accepting due to the NROTC scholarship application.

1250 SAT
30 ACT
LPO PO2 USNSCC (Will be PO1 with next TWT)

Should we be ready for the bad news?

Yes, you will receive notice either way.

No it is not in "bad form" - au contraire. It shows that you are still interested.
I believe most scholarships are awarded in winter through spring.

This is Hockeyguy21 dad here.
Thanks to Just A Mom, he will send a e-mail.
This information so helpfull, where do one find out so much?

Be patient. It is still fairly early in the selection process, I believe. I have heard of several offers of scholarship in the spring, even though the students were very academically qualified. Waiting is tough; but, the rewards are great!

mostly experience - is he NROTC- MC option?

I don't know much about that but I think it is less competitve than NROTC. I also know the Marines need officers.
It never hurts to ask questions. Did he have a good interview? Showing the love never hurts - as long as you aren't a pain. I would say if you haven't heard anything since October, then touch base. Ask the question.
Perhaps the website shows when the boards meet and that can give you a gauge.

Next Monday morning, call TBS in Quantico @ 1-703-784-9446 and ask if you're on the list of candidates either approved or disapproved. If they say you're not on the list, your application is not submitted. You'll have to wait till the next Board in February. Your Captain can say whatever he wishes but this office is the definitive word on the subject. If they say your application is not complete, you Captain didn't finish it time and will resubmit it.

He is MC option. Will consider nothing else.
Has two great letters of recomendation, and did very well in the PFT testing.
Interviews went well according to him, but no much to say.

The big concern is the lack of information. I have been lurking here for a few weeks, and noticed other comments about communication.
His application was sent in last summer, and after three months it was finally admited that they "lost it". Basically, we had two weeks in September to get caught up.
My biggest concern is the military admin whoever they are, do not like to be constantly bothered with questions IMHO. So we do not want to be a "pain"

I don't think it is bad form at all for your son to check in with the Captain who he has been dealing with as long as he is respectful. I think that it would be bad form for you to check for him however- he is after all the one applying.
Good luck

have you checked the nrotc website for your son's application status? Our son's status reads in the first three lines of the screen following his last four of ss#:

"The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application.

Missing Items

All required items have been processed.

Selection Status

No decision has been made on your application. "

I have been able to keep tabs on the progress here all you need is your son's social security number and birthdate. Good luck! We are still hopeful, the board of selection meets again in January (I think)...

Believe it or not but the Marine Corps option NROTC is basically the same as the NROTC Navy option, minimum scores. The Navy allows a 22 Composite on the ACT and you need a combined 45 (23 and a 22 Math/English) for the Marines Corps. The SAT is reverse, 1050 for the Navy and 1000 for the Marine Corps.

520 M 530 V SAT

22 ACT (Navy)

1000 SAT or combined 45 ACT (USMC)

My sons page has stated this since early November: "Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection.
Items waiting to be processed: Statement of Understanding "

My son asked, and his Recruiting Captain said it was wrong and unfortunately they didn't get it in on time. We're waiting for the February Boards now. You should have been notified by now about the November Boards, the results have been sent out/released over a week ago according to our Captain and the Marine Corps base at Quantico, of this I'm sure as they will tell you at the phone number I supplied above.

In answer to last two,
The scholarship selection status pages message has been unchanged since November;
"Your application is at the Marine Corps District for Board Selection"
"All required items have been processed"

As for ACT, it is a combined score of 55 using your formulas

I wanted to discover if we had followed the correct procedure and if others have been have been in the same situations. My son will use this information to take some actions next week.
Thanks to all. Good luck to all
