So as of this morning at around 8 a.m., my profile was updated and my application completed. My FFR emailed me and told me my only soft spot was my ACT scores (which aren't too bad) and updated my profile with a few more little extra things.

I just checked my USMA profile, and I received an LOE sometime today (the very same day my file was completed). How good is this? I don't know much about the whole LOE deal. I know I should take advantage of the overnight visit. What all does this mean though? Can I still get an LOA?

Oh yeah, and I have a presidential nomination. Everything on my application is complete.

Can you tell me where online it shows if you have an LOE? I received my letter in the mail offering me an overnight visit but did not see a change on my application portal. Could it be because I am not yet medically qualified?

Sign into your portal and go to the home tab. on the left side it should have stuff that looks like adobe PDF file things. It's on the part that says official correspondence.

LOE just means based on what the admissions office have you appear to be a competitive candidate (if you finish your application).

LOAs are being currently given out to scholars, athletes, diversity candidates, and soldiers. So if your ACT scores are "soft" and you don't fit into other categories, not likely to get an LOA.

If I were you, I will retake the ACT. "Soft" or "aren't too bad" ACT scores might not be good enough to make you #1 candidate in your MOC. Typically, Presidential appointments are more competitive than average MOC as they are at large.

I am retaking the ACT this saturday and again 2 more times. My application is already complete as of right now. And i will continue to compete and apply for MOC and Senator nominations.

My DD received her LOE last year and we worked closely with her admissions officer to understand what would make her more competitive. Her ACT scores were soft in a couple of areas and she ended up taking the test 4 times last fall to end up with a super score of 32. She received her appointment in March and is loving life at West Point. Good Luck!

While speaking to a former board of admissions member, he told me that he only knew of one person who received a LOE and didn't get an appointment (due to a problem with the law). So do most people with LOE's get appointments?

I doubt anyone would have any stats on that. I can certainly imagine situations where two or more people on the same slate have LOEs... so only one will get that appointment. Much depends on nomination sources and how many noms you get as well. Point is, don't ever rest or make assumptions. Always work as hard as you can at this.

SAT/ACT

The standardized testing is the one area on your WCS to make a dramatic affect. Continue to improve on bringing the numbers up. The high the score the better the chances.

IMO, standardized test scores are one of the most important aspects.

Gotcha! Also, my FFR informed me that I am only 1 of 3 people in my entire state and the southern region of another state that received a LOE.

LOEs......

Last year was the introduction of LOEs. Nobody here knew what the effect or impact would be to the selection process or goals. I remember rumors were pointing towards less than 200 LOEs issued. And a significant reduced number of LOAs.

Its still very early in the game and limited time to improve your WCS. Make the best of it. LOEs last year were given to promising applicants encouraging them WP was interested in them to make WP their choice.

You're in a very good position with many others who will not get the same opportunity. Take every possible advantage to attend Forbes rated #1 school.
