Can you transfer your scholarship to another school?

Last spring, I was awarded a 3 year AD scholarship to both my #1 and #2 schools. I accepted the scholarship to my #1 school, but after getting here, I realized that I don't really like it here and I want to transfer schools (either at the end of the semester or next fall) and attend my #2 school instead. My question is would the scholarship transfer too? I know transferring scholarships is difficult, but would the fact that it's only a 3 year scholarship (meaning it hasn't actually gone into effect yet) plus I had been offered a scholarship there anyway make it any easier to get the scholarship transferred (if at all possible)?

I'm nervous to talk to the Cadre about this because I don't think telling them that I want to leave the school would go over so well, so I'm asking you guys on here first. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Also if it makes any difference, I'm at an out of state public school now and the school I want to transfer to is a private school.

I can't say I know the factual answer to your question. I suspect if the private is more expensive than the OOS public, at this point the answer would probably be no. However, the real reason I wanted to post is that it's mighty early in the first semester, IMHO, to be deciding you don't like it where you are. Give it some more time. Not knowing what the issues are, perhaps you can think of steps you might take to make your experience there more amenable. Adapt and overcome.

Thanks for your answer. However I know its only been a month and a half now, but its an issue that's not going away. If the opportunity arises where I can switch schools, I'll take it in a heartbeat.

If the #2 school is in the same BN as the #1 school you wish to leave, the PMS can do this. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the receiving school to receive a scholarship. Since they don't know you at that school, it would not be likely that they have scholarships for your year beyond the cadets they have and think deserving.

If you were to transfer schools, you would spend another year proving yourself before being considered for a 2-year scholarship, in all likelihood.

CC budgets money to be allocated to schools for certain cadets when they award scholarships. That money then belongs to the BN to address their commissioning requirements. If you walk away from the 3 years of scholarship, the PMS will be looking for another cadet to award that scholarship to in order to make his commissioning target. He is unlikely to allow this to leave his BN.

Not to be overly critical, but have you figured out how you came to make an incorrect decision on your current school? I ask this because school #2 may have other failings that you are unaware of at this point, not having attended.

And is this school so bad that you wouldn't be likely to finish your degree there or is it simply the grass being greener at the other institution?

I've been to a lot of schools (and work in higher education) and for the most part, undergraduate experiences don't vary as much from school to school as you might think. Yeah, there are special programs here and there for those at the extremes of the student body, but 90% of campus life is similar across almost all schools.

And if this place is so terrible, I would also be asking myself "What happens if I get assigned to a base that is like this school when I go AD?" If you cannot make it through 4 years where you are, you are going to have a miserable life living through 3 at Ft Polk (my apologies to anyone who may be offended by that criticism) or whatever hellhole you may get assigned to once you commission.

My point here is that this is the first stage in committing yourself to living where Uncle Sam tells you, doing the job Uncle Sam tells you to do, etc. If this part is so bad, you might want to reconsider taking the next step and commissioning.
