2nd in command of STRATCOM suspended for gambling.

I googled up a few stories on this. Wondering if he was running a high stakes poker game or on base rep for local bookie. Things to think about that can quickly end a career. This is what I found. Cant wait to find out the details on the below. This guy was high up there and pretty well paid, wonder what made him do it?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The No. 2 officer at the military command in charge of all U.S. nuclear war-fighting forces is suspected in a case involving counterfeit gambling chips at a western Iowa casino and has been suspended from his duties, officials said.

I suspect the answer is simply because he could and he made a stupid decision for no real reason. The further why has me puzzled though... is gambling with counterfeit money (or someone else's money) really gambling?

I must also say when I first heard the story I thought it was going to be about huge loses he suffered which I suspect made him a security risk. Apparently not.

Doesn't get more local than this:

My first thoughts were that his purported use of counterfeit chips, not money, was a result of losses. Further, if the use of the chips was anything other than inadvertent, he would, ipso facto, be a part to a criminal enterprise. Criminal enterprises are designed and operated by criminals who have no allegiance other than to the enterprise.

One can only imagine that foreign intelligence services would keep a very watchful eye on casinos, whorehouses, etc. located near sensitive US military installations, especially this one.

STRATCOM is in my backyard and it seems almost crazy that this didn't hit the local papers until this AM.

For the reasons mentioned above, one has to believe that his use of the chips was, in fact, inadvertent. If not, this is going to get really interesting.

I tell my kids if you out and about at 2 or 3 in the morning bad things can happen. Maybe gambling in a casino for the person 2nd in command of US Nuclear Forces is not such a good idea.
