How can we elect people to offices who have no idea what it means to be a politician or how to compromise?

And why do they only hurt the people who are just trying make a living (the majority of the people who are not getting paid due to this shut down) and not themselves?

One day the view of the majority of the people whon are in the middle of the political spectrum should be heard. But we bring it on ourselves with our lack of passion that the extremist have.

Very simple, apathy. If you live in MD, you should know that most people vote for the same politicians or their children time after time regardless how they perform. An analogy I like is a CEO keeping a job regardless how the company does.
