Has anyone heard or does anyone know anything about boards or selections for NROTC nursing scholarships? I got everything submitted in august but havent heard anything about it. Does nursing have seperate boards? When should expect to hear something? I know theres probably no one who can answer this, but if anyone has heard anything at all please let me know! Thanks!

There are separate nursing boards. It's my understanding that there are only two boards. One meets sometime in the autumn (no earlier than late Oct. I think) and the other is in the late winter (Feb or March). Working from memory so my dates may be off.

Thats very helpful thank you. One of my concerns is that the number of nursing scholarships being given out this year is extremely low, like less than 30. Do you know if this is true? How many applicants are competing for these spots?

Nurse scholarships are reduced this year. I'm not sure on the total number being awarded but I had heard around 20-30. Not sure about total number of applicants.

The reduction in the number of schools offering the program and the possibility that college program is not awarding advanced standing is making for a very competitive process.

Here is what I found in the Fiscal Year 2014 NROTC Application Goals Notice 1131:

NROTC Nurse application goal is 200 nationally with 111 from the east region and 89 from the west.

My best wishes to you :thumb:

Clarification, this shows the application goals, the accession goals are smaller though I haven't found those yet...

Here's what I found under NSTC Note 1533:

"NAVAL RESERVE OFFICERS’ TRAINING CORPS NAVY OPTION PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2013-
2014" :

Nurse option: 26

My interviewing officer told me I was a very strong applicant but now I am starting to wonder if there is any real chance at all. I'm surprised there are so few nursing scholarships.

Well, the only way you can be certain not to get one is to not apply. Just make sure you have backup plans in place, or are working them, when you do apply.

I can't speak for the Navy, but the army are over strength on nurses. I believe even if we weren't in a budget crisis or a drawdown, the nursing allocation still be lower this year.

Considering that the Army is supposed to be "over strength" on nurses, they sure have a plethora of civilian nurses (who I'm sure make more $$ than 2nd LT's) working over at Ft Sam.

Welcome to the government.

That's true for your entry level RN. They make more than a 2LT- Junior CPT. Mid grade CPT+ RNs make more than GS-11 RNs by sometimes $20,000.
