United Airlines picked up the airfare and now the game is on as scheduled!!

Good win for Navy -- they look strong. Thought the band sounded like cats in a bag while playing the alma maters, though.

The Air Force alma mater was on tape b/c their band could not come.

It was actually quite moving/sad. USAFA had no cadets who traveled to see the game, no cheerleaders, no band, and no falcon. So they had to come to the Navy side for THEIR alma mater to be played -- due to the shutdown, of course.

Happy for the USNA win, but feel badly that the USAFA couldn't have the support at the game that their team deserved.

I agree! I did enjoy the solo trumpet player that played the AF song thru out the game in section 132.

And here I thought they did that out of camaraderie and brotherhood!

Good lord! You do love to stir the pot!

All's fair in love, war, and football. Air Force is in for a long season, and no post-season.

Realistically, had this game not been played, Air Force could potentially only have won 5 games and applied for a waiver for a bowl. Now they have to win 5 of the remaining 6 to get to a bowl. It'll be a quiet December in Colorado Springs.

As you probably know, the tradition is for the losing and winning teams to go first to the loser's side of the field for their alma mater and then both teams go to the winner's side for its alma mater.

While there were certainly AF fans, there was no collection of AF cadets in the stands, as there typically is (they usually bring about 2 companies worth + D&B + cheerleaders). So, USAFA came to the Navy side for both alma maters.

I doubt the USNA D&B could easily learn the USAFA alma mater in a day. Rather than risk butchering it, USNA played a tape of the USAFA alma mater. The mids did pay respect to USAFA (took off their covers, etc.). It was very nice.

Under the circumstances, it was very nice. I simply felt badly for the USAFA cadets. That said, they played a terrific 2 1/2 quarters and came much closer to winning than the score would indicate.

The recording of Toast (AF Alma Mater) was actually recorded by the AF D&B yesterday to be played at the game.

I thought the mids were respectful, but dang the sound quality of the 3rd verse was terrible!

United Airlines picked up the airfare...

UA offered, but their assistance wasn't needed. The team flew Delta, which has the contract to fly Army, AF, and Navy football teams to road games.

AF team flew Delta, stayed at Marriott. Those bills were picked up by an industry donor who has remained very low-key.

Or as Army calls it, "EVERY SEASON" :thumb:
