Navy Football Strikes Again

Navy Times has picked up the story here. Sounds like he was on the roster plebe and youngster years only. Still...

Doesn't bode well for his completion of UPT.

I love Disney, Shades of Green and the USO Park Hopping passes (and JetBlue's 2009 or 2010 $1 round-trip flights for military in the D.C. area.) I spent maybe $250 for a five-day stay at Disney World.

It is beyond me...

why some people enjoy the pain and suffering of others. Thank goodness we all don't scour the news for tidbits to make others look bad.

There are 4,000+ midshipmen, just like at USMA and USAFA. Just like EVERY organization or school there are going to be people that misbehave.

Cadets misbehave. Midshipmen misbehave. I have been to every academy and met countless students from these fine institutions. I am quite sure you'll find fewer miscreants there than on regular college campuses or just about anywhere for that matter.

We shouldn't turn a blind eye to misbehavior, but this post has nothing to do with Navy football. A 24 year old graduate does not represent Navy football or the academy with his misdeeds.

I don't know what school the OP attended, maybe Army... but I'd bet that you could find notorious graduates wherever he went. They would be far, far in the minority however. I believe the academies truly produce great young people as a rule and I am proud to know many of them.

No one is enjoying the pain and suffering of others. If someone does something stupid, he or she deserves what he or she gets.

The graduate happened to be a former Navy football player, hence there is some, big or small, to Navy Football.

I can tell you that a classmate of mine was charged with maudering his ex wife. He wasn't a football player, did almost make the team. If someone pointed this fact to me, I will accept it as what it is - life.

He could have been a Sprint footballer (aka 150 lbs football) that got called up. Similar thing happen to an upperclassman in my company when I was at WP, granted he was more than 157 pounds. I believe for Sprint football, players need to make weight Friday before the game.

Sprint players are bigger now. 172 lbs is the limit and they weigh in twice the week of a game.

Yeah, actually, he does. We get to reap the benefits of an Academy degree our entire lives. That's because we represent the values the Academy stands for, and that is not to be taken lightly. This joker is another in a growing string of Navy football players (present and past) who've brought severe discredit upon the institution and should give Mids and their leadership serious reason to question the values of that program.
 
His most recent appearance on the football roster was 2009. If we want to paint a group with which he's associated with a broad brush, shouldn't we use a more recent affiliation?

Who gives two cents whether he played football, did intramurals, or sat on his behind....does it REALLY matter he played football? The fact is he graduated from an SA and when people see this in the media, that is all they care about. It is making a HUGE leap to attribute his conduct ~1.5 years after graduation to a sports team problem.
 
Unfortunately, being a SA grad is no guarantee that you won't do stupid things later in life.

This guy wasn't a current mid; he wasn't a current FB player. Yes, he graduated from USNA; yes, he played football during his tenure at USNA.

However, to suggest that someone's drunken actions after one has graduated are a reflection on the SA, let alone the football team . . . I think not.

Just a case of stupidity. Pure and simple.:rolleyes:

I don't know Scout Pilot and I mean no ill will. In fact I thank and appreciate the service to our country. I also respect and congratulate for graduating from one of the premier and finest institutions in our country.

But... It seems that for whatever reason that there is an axe to grind. With google all one has to do to find instances of misconduct in any academy is type in a search line. We can always find examples of negative behaviors. anyone can quickly find them. I found one from this summer starring two USMA athletes. I am sure it is an isolated incident. To indict the entire program for their actions would be ludicrous.

In my opinion the entire post served no practical reason other than to demean USNA, perhaps for their decade of dominance for the Commander in Chief's Trophy.

Especially if he joined the team as a sophomore and may not have one of been those evil recruited athletes. Dude was also on the Dean's List at USNA, which doesn't necessarily fit the narrative either.

This has been the talk of Pensacola and environs for the past couple days. While the story is kind of funny (Disney! PVC pipes! Drunkenly trying to steal golf carts!), it's also embarrassing for the Navy/USNA and very sad.
He was in advanced, so not too far away from getting his wings and heading off to the fleet to finally get to do it for real. Now everything he worked to achieve over the past five plus years is down the drain because of a couple seriously bad decisions.

Hardly. This is a pretty big deal (see: USNA grads killing endangered birds several years back. *sigh*) that made national news. I was counting down the hours until someone posted about it on here.
 
Of course, the opposite would be to ignore the misconduct of our military officers, academy graduates and cadets and midshipmen, and that also serves no purpose.


I don't want to condemn USNA, but one of two things seems to be happening. Either USNA has significantly bigger programs with its midshipmen than the other academies have with their students, OR USNA gets more focus than USMA, USAFA, USCGA and USMMA.

I don't know if it's one or the other, or a mixture of both. I do know I tend to read about USNA's issues more than any other academy (and yes, I know cadets and midshipmen at every academy have issues).
 
Just so I'm clear on the prevailing philosophy...

If a graduate becomes President, or a Senator, or a CEO, that's evidence of why SAs are so great and is a point of pride for the institution.

But if football players rape a girl, or a grad clocks Snow White with a pipe, or kill some birds for sport...well, now, you can't really say that has anything to do with the Academy, now can you?

Yes, grads from all Academies screw up. That isn't a reason to pretend they don't reflect negatively on the institutions, especially when the institutions are happy to take credit for grad successes.
