3Q'd - Medical Waiver

I am currently applying to the USNA for the class of 2018. I submitted my applicationi early September and had my BGO interview done by the end of September.

I have heard from DODMERB stating that I am medically disqualified due to my 'presumed' allergy to sunflower seeds. Since the letter from DODMERB came, I have had numerous tests done that have all come up with results saying that I am not allergic.

Basically, all the doctors presumed I was allergic when I had a reaction while eating the seeds, but the tests have come back negative so they now believe it was a one time thing (i guess that can happen).

I am told my the USNA that I will be considered for a waiver once I am awarded an appointment, so I have been waiting and praying for that.

With what I have been reading though, I have to be 3Q'd to recieve and appointment, and how does that happen if I am not medically qualified at this point?

I THINK what USNA meant is that, if they decide to offer you an appointment based on all but your medical, they will consider your waiver.

It is a waste of resources to address waivers for candidates to whom USNA doesn't want to offer an appointment for some other reason(s).

First, I agree with 85. If by chance you are a very competitive candidate (see class profile, etc.), and if you have the time and resources, you may wish to schedule an appointment with a Physician/Specialist and submit the additional test results to DODMERB. DS was a competitive candidate last year and failed his hearing test. We were surprised as he never exhibited any signs of hearing loss/damage. We went to a hearing specialist, DS retested, and passed the test with better than average results. We submitted the data to DODMERB, and received the DODMERB waiver in the next couple of weeks.

Not to say this is the same scenario as it is not. This did help DS better understand his options so he could plan accordingly. If he was sure he was medically DQ'ed, it certainly would have kicked in additional options.

DD had a LOA with a subsequent medical DQ. She visited a professional in the field and the report from a qualified physician to DoDMERB and the Naval Academy removed her DQ. Proud graduate of Class of 2011. Go for it.
