Just wondering how it works if your child apply for both the Academy & NROTC scholarship. Our DS said that some information is shared with the applications but what does that mean exactly?

Our DS applied for the Academy, attended NASS, a Navy sports camp, passed his DoDMERB medical, and just got a Senator nomination. So for the Academy it is now up to the admissions board. How does any of this weigh in with the NROTC application and the board?

If it has a checkbox on the NROTC application it will count for something, otherwise it has no impact. Don't recall if NASS and the Sports camp appeared on the NROTC app, and of course things could have changed. If he receives a scholarship, then they'll use the DoDMERB physical that has already been completed.

All just my surmise, but it makes sense to me. If they're going to give you credit for NASS and sports camp, then they need to give it to everyone who went, whether they applied to the Academy or not. Of course, some people don't apply.

SAT and ACT scores will be shared with NROTC. DoDMERB will be rolled over.

I received positive feedback during the BGO interview, my congressional interview, and the NROTC interview for applying to both. They saw it as a demonstration of commitment to serve no matter the commissioning source.

We were told by the AO at USNA that information is shared for recruiting purposes only. For example, if you are an NROTC applicant, you will likely get sent recruiting material for the USNA and visa-versa

Of course, DODMERB info is shared but I think that would be it.

how much does dual appl. help USNA & NROTC?

I have heard the same, but how much does it help the applications? Did you actually hear how much benefit it is?
thx.

I can see where it could have an impact on your evaluations during interviews. However, it will not be part of the scoring so it's impact would be indirect. Perhaps another way to look at it though is that in some sense it "doubles" your chances of entering a commissioning program.

Last year when I applied to both, I think the only info that was shared was DoDMERB. I had to send separate SAT/ACT scores and enter my sports and leadership info separately. There was a box on the ROTC app that asked if I was applying to a service academy, but I don;t know if that affected my app for either.
