Can you request an overnight visit to USMA?

Background: Last year, our son applied to the Naval Academy and was offered a CVW which he took advantage of, visiting Annapolis in late Oct. (and loved it). After failing to receive an appointment last spring, he accepted an academic scholarship to a 4-year college and began the re-application process, this time to both USMA and USNA. Now, from what I understand, as a college applicant to the academies, his file won't even be considered until his first semester grades are turned in so there's no chance of a LOE or offer of an overnight visit.

Questions: First of all, is that true - will his file be ignored until his college grades are in? Secondly, is it OK for him to call and request an official visit to USMA? If so, is there an official process or channel to follow? Thanks for any info you can offer.

Thanks!

My3Sons2017 - thanks for the link. That makes it look like an overnight is not allowed unless you've received an LOE. So, I guess the questions still stand - does anyone have specific knowledge concerning applicants who are currently attending college? Thanks again for any info!

When I was applying my second time, I was attending the community college. Admissions would look at your file once they have your first semester transcripts. In the mean time, earn the best grades you can in the class, do extracurricular activities and prep for SAT/ACT if needed. As for the overnight visit, admission is the only authority to authorize an overnight. The requirements are either an LOE or appointment. I don't think you can request one....I wish that was real. Good luck on his journey to the BFE

Being in college does not preclude you from being considered for an LOE.

Your file will not be reviewed for qualification until those college transcipts are received though.

Tell him to talk to your FFR/RC. I was able to schedule an overnight visit that way when I was in the same situation.

845, BigBear - thanks for the info. It's particularly good to hear from someone who was in the same boat as our son. :thumb:

I am a college student (reapplicant) and I have a LOE. Last admissions cycle I did not have a LOE so I only made a day visit. You are considered for a LOE even if your application is not finished, they give them out based off of your file strength at that point in time.

IMPO LOEs are harder to come by than a CVW Invitation. I received a CVW invitation as well, but so did one of my acquaintances who's file I know is lacking in certain areas. Just my two cents.

Thanks - this is very useful! If you don't mind my asking - is your file complete EXCEPT for fall grades? What about SOEs? Just trying to figure out when they start looking seriously at a candidate's file. Thanks again for your replies.

I am second year college student, so USMA already has 2 semesters of college grades on file. My SOEs are complete because they simply carried over from last years file (including those completed by my college professors). My file has been fully qualified as well.
