Hey guys. I have a off-topic question about my rights. I live in the state of Virginia if this makes a difference. My teacher uses a times and whenever we talk she turns on the timer and we stay after for how many seconds we have. I've heard that it's against a law/ ordinance that a teacher cannot hold students after class. (Wouldn't really care but this holds us all from lunch and I have a hard time sitting with friends if I'm late. Any law stating she can't hold the whole class back?

Easy solution: Your talking wastes her time so stop talking and she'll stop wasting yours (meaning you'll get to lunch on time).

As for rights, you have the right to an education for free, something many countries are still struggling to offer. Its up to you and your class on how you choose to use the opportunity. However, if you still want to know, I'm sure you could find what you're looking for in some charter or state law. Unless their from Virginia, no one can really help you since education is, for now at least, mostly run by each individual state.

Think about it, you are asking a military forum about your rights as a 13 yr old student in middle school. :confused::confused::confused::confused:

Talk to your folks if this is bothering you so much that you felt a need to start a thread here.

Now if you want to ask off topic how old you must be to get a PPL or jump out of a perfectly good airplane, than OFF TOPIC is the place to ask.

However, discussing why your 7th/8th grade teacher is holding you back from lunch and hanging with friends for 20 mins. is IMPO a thread made just to start a thread.
~~ Just like resurrecting the I'm Back thread. It was already DOA, had been for a yr., and than for the last month.

Just saying at 13 you are conversing with people that are at least 17, and many are AD, retired, etc. IOWs 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s or your teachers.

Read the chance me threads so you can plot your academic/athletic/leadership future to get an appointment or ROTC scholarship.

Trey, I'll heed Bruno's subtle warning, try to remember you are still pretty young (while also rememberng just how dumb, inexperienced in the nuansces of the world, and flat-out annoying I was at your age, which many of us here seem to forget sometimes), and give you something to think about.

You're visiting a site dedicated to helping young men and women find the answers as they learn how to join the US services as officers. So, thinl about what you are asking. You are upset with an authority figure because they have some rules you don't like, mostly because it is an inconvenience to you. Therefore, you want to find a way to "lawyer up", and tell this authority figure her actions are against your rights (we'll get to this whole "rights" thing in a little bit), and you'll therefore not follow her rules anymore. Do I have the situation correct?

Well, let's think on this a second. 1) know your surroundings. Don't you think the folks here, who have spent a life following authority figures, or who ARE authority figures, might find it a little foolish on your part to ask these types of questions here? 2) This whole "rights" thing. Do you have rights to lunch? Sure. Do you have rights to Free Speech? Yes again. Do you have rights not to be held against your will by your teacher? Well, let's let the ACLU fight that one for you. But do all these "rights" mean it is now OK to be RUDE? Think about that.

Better solution to your dilema: you don't want to be late for lunch, stop beng rude in class. And remember, just because you have "rights" doesn't mean you still can be wrong in some cases. You were rude to an aithority figure and they punished you for it. If you REALLY are considering a career in the military, get used to this.

And if you are returning here because just you're bored, go be bored on Facebook.
